Hi all! My name is Tony and I've been playing since 1994. I was in Jr high when I got my first guitar, which was a Squire Mexican strat. Grew up listening to and inspired by all sorts of music, but grunge was definitely the sound of the moment when first I started playing. Played in a few bands, had my rockstar moment winning a battle of the bands. As time went on I developed other interests. I picked up a nice ovation acoustic/electric and left my strat and another guitar I acquired (73 Fender Mustang) behind at my dad's house when I went away to college. In the time I've spent away from my electric guitars music has still been a staple in my life. I've amassed a nice little home studio focused on electronic music and hip-hop. Ableton Live, midi keyboards, Maschine MK3, etc.

Fast forward about 20 or so years. I got really excited about the upcoming Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour, as Billy Corgan was probably my favorite guitarist growing up. Listening to all that old music inspired me to dig those old guitars out of dad's basement. Glad they were still there and he hadn't thrown them out! I was familiar with amp modeling software and I've gotta say it's a game changer. Being able to have access to so many different tones and pedals is really blowing my mind. Back in my day you just had one amp and maybe a few pedals. Now I can come pretty damn close to mimicking just about any sound. Very cool stuff!

Anyway I've discovered both guitars need a little love to sound great again. I've found myself doing a lot of research and watching youtube videos, and figured this would be a great place to learn more about my guitars. Tentative plan is to sell the Mustang and get a Les Paul, and upgrade the electronics in the squire without breaking the bank. I figure with an LP, Strat and my Ovation I should have a nice well rounded collection. Anyway sorry for the long winded post and thanks for reading.

Cheers!

Sometimes you need to step away from something for a while to later come back and really appreciate what you have.
I am 71, and have been in & out of music and bands many times. Now I am back in and also fixing & collecting them and loving it more now then ever.
I also use this to clear my mind of the busy world we live in.
Welcome back!

Great introduction, Tony. You are so right. There is so much happening with the gear available today, and that definitely has sparked or renewed an interest. Home recording going from analog to digital has opened doors (especially in restricted sound locations like apartments or close to angry neighbours). Modeling, still not a mature technology, has come a long ways. A friend with numerous tube amps is modeling all of them and then he’ll downsize. Whatever the case, a return to guitar playing is like the common cold. You can rid yourself of it, but you’ll probably get it back. 0nly this is a welcome disease. :D
Welcome to the Forums, Tony.
