Hey all. Just wanted to drop by an introduce myself.

Born & raised in East Central Minnesota, somehow migrated into enemy territory just over the border into Wisconsin a few years ago :) Just began playing again about 4 years ago, after about a 20yr hiatus. Recently purchased a new Olympic White, Squier Deluxe Hot Rails Strat, to add to my small collection. Needed a solid Strat without a Floyd Rose trem :) First time owning a Fender, & I gotta say, wow, does the unfinished maple neck feel sexy smooth. Specs say Poly finish, but there is no finish on it. Fine by me. Really nice fret work also, not a sharp edge to be found. Extremely happy with it.

At any rate. Still learning of course, but enjoy playing anything from 70's classic rock, up to todays modern metal, rock, progressive rock. Big fan of Kansas, Boston, Thin Lizzy, Aldo Nova, Judas Priest, Queensryche (w/ Tate & DeGarmo), Bush, Wallflowers, Santana, Dream Theatre, pretty wide range as you can see. Biggest influences, Dimebag, Zakk Wylde, Satriani, Tipton/Downing, Vai, SRV, Gilmore, Rudolph Schenker, John Sykes, Adrian Smith, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, & especially John Petrucci. List goes on....

Always open for learning something new, so I am experimenting as much as I can while I work on learning to play. Grew up with an older brother who has played since he was 16 (now approaching 60), with a '57 Fender Tele, who of course was the one who got me started. So lots of experience to lean on.

Anyway. Hit me up anytime.

Thanks Steve! Glad to be here, & happy to have taken the plunge & bought a new Fender guitar :)

Having grown up with an older bro who played (working on getting his "59 Tele from him, along with his tube amp, apparently he doesn't touch it much more, so he asked me if I wanted it), I got hooked on music fairly quick. other older bro listened to a lot of ZZ-Top, Heart, Boston, etc., ex-bro in-law listened to a lot of Zepplin, Dr. Hook, Santana, etc., then, riding with mom as a kid, well, I got country drilled into my brain, Conway Twitty, Oakridge Boys, Kenny Rogers(wanted to pull my hair out as a kid lol), unfortunately, had no choice. So yea, needless to say, I had a lot of influence, & music around me, well, really since I can remember. Add in the former DJ/MC work in the late 90's, & I was exposed to quite a bit of variety.

Anyway. I took more to the classic stuff like I said, Joe Walsh, Kansas' Rich Williams, Page, Thin Lizzy, April Wine, Tom Petty, .38 Special, etc. Plus growing up in the 80's, hard to forget all the hair metal lol. Can't complain though, a LOT of great guitarists came out of the 80's hair metal scene. Aside from some of the 90's stuff, haven't been real big on the newer stuff. Tremonti formerly of Creed, now with Alter Bridge, & Petrucci, other than that, not many new guys I care for. Prefer the pre-2k sound/guitarists.

But, enough blabbing. Glad to meet ya, glad to be here. Ever any questions or anything. Always around. Have a great one.

Tony

Hey there, Tony. Welcome. Good choice of music and musicians. It’s all good and contributes to Rock.

Gotta say this about Country. Even the old standards had an influence on your preference. Early rockers might have grown up with Country twang, only to crank it up a notch for rock and roll. Leo Fender, Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and a barn load of producers and the like got the wheel goin’. Then high gear kicked in and gave us the rest. Today, Country Rock helps to keep guitars and rock alive as we know well. Many hard core rockers have given their blessing and some their talent. A good song is just that, so is a good musician, and there’s plenty around for all of us. It’s always a treat to have a variety in your lunch kit. Looks like your lunch kit is well packed. :D

PS: Walsh and those other guys are in my playlist too.

Welcome.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
