I'm new here.
Today I went into one of my local shops to look at telecasters. After glancing around the place for a bit, I couldn't find anything Fender, so I asked the guy behind the counter about a Tele. At the word Fender, the guy got visibly angry and just interrupted me to say that Fender guitars are bad and he doesn't carry them, but he wouldn't explain why.

So, serious question; what's wrong with Fender guitars? Should I avoid them?

Hi bitcohen, welcome to the forum. And in answer to your question there's nothing wrong with Fenders, I'm guessing your shop keeper has had a bad experience as a dealer. I've got four Fender Teles and they're all great, I'll never part with them.

Welcome. NO, there is nothing wrong with Fender. Hope you have more places to shop at for a Fender.

Hmm? He wouldn’t commit to say why they were bad? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are bad for him. That’s possible.

Maybe he’s never been to a concert or checked out Clapton, Gilmore, Beck, Urban, Paisley, and the list goes on. Tone aside (depending on preference) new Fenders are IMHO are equally or better built than many of their predecessors. Beneath the makeup a lot of competitors can’t say the same. There will always be the exception. YMMV.

There are plenty of choices in guitar land. Fender’s are a workhorse and there’s plenty to choose from. Maybe you’ll find one that fits you and not just a wall hanging, although when you’re not playing you can hang it on the wall and it will have that historical classic vibe. :D
Good luck on your pick, bitcohen.

Hi & welcome,
The only thing wrong with fender is he did not stock them so he could sell you one.
Big problem for him, but you could do very well buying one...
Enjoy!
