Welcome to the Forums RedPlect. I had a great time in the UK in The Swinging 60s.

Here's wishing you many great times here.

FSB

Nice lot of gear by the way.

Hi FSB

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The Swingin' Sixties? Aah, what nostalgia you bring back. Carnaby Street, and the Ram Jam Club off Greek Street, Piccadilly. Or the Roundhouse in Hampstead where I watched Pete Towshend smash a guitar, and how I winced as there used to be a Fender shop just off Shaftesbury Ave on the street after Wardour Street(now leads to Chinatown) where I used to wistfully gaze at Strats on sale for £199, and I could not afford any.

Boy! That jogs the memory.

I stayed in Hampstead Heath, mingled with the arts crowd (rich and poor with a common interest), hung at the Friend at Hand pub where I found a phone to use before cells were available. I bought some cool fashions, and later ordered Premier drums from England so I could at least look like Keith Moon.

In a late night/early morning Soho club I saw an awesome band with a North African singer, a German, a Frenchman, and Brits. Something you're less likely to see over here in those days. The Shadows with their Fenders played on juke boxes and Radio Caroline.

The Beatles and James Bond were everywhere. I got taken to a private Casino to play roulette like Bond. 8)
Mini skirts and fashion shoots decorated every other corner. The introduction of the topless monokini bathing suit by Rudy Gernreich might be seen in Torquay or Brighton.
I hitch hiked to Liverpool's Cavern Club, and overall I just rocked out everywhere. Great fun. :D
Seeing and talking about the British Invasion, Motown, and other music historical times like Woodstock are one thing; but, as you touched upon RedPlect, to fully embrace the understanding and vibes of it all, you had to be there. It's like surfing from an arm chair. Still fun, but not surfing. IMHO.

Welcome to the Forum RedPlect ! Nice gear cool color choice. I missed the 60s was there 72 to 74. Spent off work time at the Fox and Hounds in Ardley. Weekends in Oxford at Sunshine Records, Cassidy's, the Rooster or Cave or the New Theater seeing every one from Don Mclean to Uriah Heep (first ever Bad Company concert there) and the first Knebworth festival in 74. London is a blur but i'm pretty sure it was fun, hic  Have fun here. :D

Wow, guys. Besides the warm welcomes, what lovely memories evoked.

I was in the RAF at the time. Went to the Isle of Wight, to see Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. In a field, in rain, in a tent. Nothing like the waterproof tents and wi-fi of Glastonbury. The gate-guard had to blink twice to us return caked in mud!!

Yes, those halcyon days are long gone.

Recently saw Bob Dylan and his Band in Liverpool. What a distant cry he was from that IoW gig. He was disappointing.

About Dylan. I was a huge fan, and he got me into folk guitar with the harmonica. His original song book sits on the keyboard.

I heard from someone that, although good if you dig it, his performance is declining as happens to aging musicians at times. He's coming here soon and I declined to attend the concert. I prefer to enjoy his past accomplishments, including the Traveling Wilburys. Your post seems to verify my thoughts, RedPlect.

You might enjoy this story, RedPlect. I mentioned earlier that I hitchiked to Liverpool. On the way we were pranked by some RAF guys that put up two Canucks for the night at the end of a runway in a building that was empty except for the two sailors who took up the offer. Nice guys as they brought bedding.

About 3 o'clock in the morning the building lit up and shook as Coventry's nuclear armed Vulcan Bombers introduced themselves to us with a low fly pass over our freaked out heads. Crazy LOUD! Glad they didn't drop their load - we almost did.
The same guys made up for the prank by taking us to breakfast. :D

With that Vulcan XH558 clip, you evoke even more memories. Even though I serviced Vulcans, I did not work on XH558. I saw her in a majestic display at an Air Show not too far from Liverpool, at Southport. Sadly, she has now gone the same way of iconic aircraft-----to the Happy Hunting Grounds in the sky.

My barracks were close to the runway at Scampton, so we were used to the roar of those Vulcans roaring off on sorties.

Re:Dylan. A lot of 'oldies' like me bemoaned the fact,(a)not once during that gig he interacted with 12000 paying customers, nor(b)play any of his old folksy stuff.

Pretty cool to work with that aircraft. The thing that amazes me about the Vulcan is the fact that defense armament was not originally considered. It was all about putting faith in speed and altitude.

Brave pilots indeed.

Of course, being Canadian, AVRO has a place in our heart. So the Vulcan was a treat to see.

One never knows what is hidden behind those doors today. 8) A Canada Arm?

As for Dylan, a man of words, he has been known for few with his audience. Go figure.
