I'm new here and am not sure where to obtain the info I need.
I have a serial number that starts with E9 with 5 numbers following made in Korea?
How can I place a value on it? It was bought from an estate sale for my father.

Hi Jerzee18, welcome to the forum.

I don't think Squires keep their value the way Fenders do, a second hand one isn't worth that much but there are others around here that will be able to give you more accurate information than I can. Good luck with your search.

Welcome to the Forum Jerzee18. There is a Squire Forum and a Strat Forum. Try there. :D

Late 80s and early 90s had Korean Squires with serial prefix S for Samick made Squires and E primarily for piano maker Young Chang (Fenix guitars) made Squires.

The first number following S or E is the year.

E10 +5 numbers circa 1986. This is an exception being the earliest model year as known.

E7 + 5 numbers (silver) 1987/88

S9 Samick 1989

E0 Sung-Eum 1990

E1 +5 numbers (black) Sung-Eum 1991

As you can see from the above, one would wonder why or if E7 covers both 1987 and 1988, and whether E9 represents 1989 Young Chang (Fenix) Squires just as Samick's S9 does.

Young Chan ran into licensing problems with Fender, and there may have been some related or unrelated cross over issues going to Samick which makes my guess is that E9 puts that Squire at 1989 as well. No other serial number in that lineup seems to contradict the lettering and numbering in this case, although others here may have a better handle on it.

Other Korean serial numbers, dates, and manufactures exist, but they do not apply here and are vague identifications sometimes.

As for worth . . . it usually goes with what the buyer is willing to pay and even more based on the appreciation one has for it. YMMV :D
