Im Tom, Curently trying to learn to play. Bought myself a MX Strat, and a Mustang III amp. Totally lost with the amp as there are so many options I don't know where to begin. And what is this "stomp" feature and how do I get to it.

Looking for help...

Thanx :D :?

Congratulations, Tom!

These Forums are terrific for quick information and have a vast accumulation of information. Sometimes you need to dig deep down into the older pages of threads.

Also be sure to see the http://fender-mustang-amps-and-fuse.wikia.com/wiki/Fender_Mustang_Amps_and_Fuse_Wiki! It was created by a new user last winter confronted with absorbing all the information out there about the Mustangs.

Stomp is short for Stomp box. Each of the Mustang III's 100 Presets can have up to Four (4) Effect Banks configured. The easiest way to access any of the FX banks is to Press and Hold the respective button (Stomp, Mod, Delay, Reverb) on the amp. This displays that FX's edit screen on the amp's LCD. Turn the Data Wheel to select from the choices available in each FX bank.

Read Fender's Getting Started and Advanced User Guides, both available as PDFs from Fender's website, for the Mustang III. These will provide a basic understanding. For an even better overall concept of how and what to do, be sure to read the wikia!

Also be sure to post any questions here to the Forums.

++1 on the informative post ML.

Good to have you here, Tom. You have great gear on which to enjoy the learning experience. A guitar that fits your personality and one that can meet your needs both now and in the future is a good start because, all too often, a lesser guitar can lead to not wanting to continue with the learning process.

That Mustang of yours is a wonderful tool that will introduce you to the effects and controls most often found when playing an electric guitar. Later you can choose to add or not add similar or other outboard pedals or, perhaps, come to a decision to consider getting an amp that is simulated on the Mustang. But, the amp you have will do you well as it sits, and it has a popular following. In fact, some have replaced or supplemented their expensive heavy weight amps and multiple pedals with the Mustang. You'll soon see that guitar equipment is like candy. Enjoy your experience and time here in the Forum, and most of all have fun. :D

Tips: There will be a lot to learn and the amp works best when you tweak it to your preference.

You will find that the tweaking and understanding of the settings will take some time, and in some cases it can be an ongoing practice.

You can approach this in different ways. You can take a lot of time in the beginning learning your amp, but it may take time away from your playing and lessons.

You could concentrate on your playing and use the basic amp settings at first. You then could have more time directed to learning some basic chords, and playing techniques to start you on your way.

Or you can adjust your attention span between the guitar and amp. Add to that discovering related software tools and their operation.

One other thing, you'll find plenty of mention that a new guitar setup for your personal style of playing and playability is worth doing, and will make a noticeable difference for enjoyment. I prefer that the first time setup be done by an experienced individual so that you have some reference to go by should you decide to do it yourself later or not. Factory setup can be good or bad, it just doesn't address the individual. IMHO.

Hope all of this helps to get you started, Tom.
