What's up folks!

My name is Mohamed (Mo for short) and I'm from Mississippi. I recently got myself a 2015 Fender American Standard Stratocaster in olympic white and now I know what all the talk is about, ha! Boy, she sure does sing! I hope to meet some fine folks here who can share stories and talk music - true happiness. I'm sure you guys will persuade me to first get a decent amplifier. Ten years ago I worked in a factory to save up enough cash to buy a Jackson DK2M Dinky Pro and a Line 6 Spider III 150-watt half-stack. The guitar gives me much joy, but the amp, well...I guess you could say it was one of those beginner mistakes, haha! I look forward to hearing from you all!

Thanks for your time!

- Mo

Welcome to the forum Mo,

The better the amp better your guitar will sound good.
Better do not mean powerfull.

A rule of thumb; put more money on the amp than your guitar = best match and sound.
Most of us don't like to read that

A line6, 150 watts amps full gadget may cost $500 ?
A Fender Deluxe Reverb, 25 watts tubes amp $1000 which is better amp to me, no gadgets.

Welcome Mo. I am a Newbie here myself. I have a Fender Mustang IV and I Love It. About $500.00 and it does more than I know How to do. You might check into it and see what you think. Also, I purchased mine from Zzounds and they Shipped it from MS. Mine arrived in 2 Days, I was Impressed. I am in Houston, TX.

Nice to have you join the club, Mo. I agree with the other 2 posts here. Still, a good/better guitar will release Mojo, and it will make you want to play and practice more. I think you may have discovered that already.

Cost and power do not make the amp, unless those factors come into personal play.

Today, PAs are used a lot and, with mixers, amps are either miked, or the line outs go to the PA. On the other hand you may want or need more raw volume without the PA. Recording is a different matter with choices like USB, headphone jacks, and as mentioned with hardwire. Each with their own benefit.

How and when an amp/speaker reaches distortion, plays clean, or performs at low level are also considerations. Trust your ears and you are in the right place.

Without going into further details, you'll find a lot of expert advice and experience here in the Forum to guide you.

C'mon in. :D

 You got that right! I have heard so many wonderful sounding amps that somehow don't seem to sound so wonderful after I look at the price!

Man, that's something! I purchased my Fender Stratocaster from them and didn't even know they had a warehouse here in Mississippi! I'm thinking it must be located in the Jackson/Hattiesburg area. Mine shipped from Memphis and got here in 2 days as well. Zzounds really set it up well, too!

Also, to Fender Strat Brat - Man, you really know your stuff! The Line 6 is what is holding back the true potential of the guitars, I know. I believe I spent $600 for the amp and cab at the time (my friend gave me a discount) and I was pretty much a beginner and didn't know what I know now, ha! I'm in the market for a new tube amplifier. I love the clean sound of Fender amps but I'm a bit worried if they will be able to handle my style of play when it comes to the heavier stuff. I play just about everything, but I really love hard rock and heavy metal (i.e. AC/DC up to Pantera). In terms of Fender amps, I had my eye on the Hot Rod Deville ML (Michael Landau) model for some time, but I believe the Hot Rod Deluxe may be the better choice as I just play at home as a hobbyist and don't need a really high output amplifier; just something versatile that sounds nice at lower volumes. Do you think it's possible that I could substitute pedals to help get enough gain out of a Fender amp, or maybe I should look elsewhere?

Thanks again guys! Your feedback is much appreciated :D

Thanks for the complement, Mo; I'll add, however, there are many others here that could answer your question about pedal gain with Fender amps better than I.

I can tell you that you'll find vintage and modern amp sections where you may want to review or post your pedal/amp question. Nothing beats experience, and, regardless of the amp or pedal, there are crazy combinations that literally work or don't work . . . and you still need to trust your ears.

If you haven't tried Mustang III, IV, and V for that overdriven sound without a pedal (or with the available expression pedal) you might be surprised. I'm not endorsing Mustangs, but do yourself a favour and check them out for comparison with your other options.

Without taking sides or picking the amp per se here's some of what I found that may be of interest. Other amps with and without pedals may give you your sound. Also, consider this. Different pickups, tone controls, strings, speakers/cabs, playing and so on all have some bearing so the best you can do is gather information and make your blend. Your past experience will be beneficial and your future experience will help others.

Hope this helps. At least now you have a taste of what's possible.

Mo you already have an Amp so I would say your better versed than myself but I will explain "WHY" I chose the Fender Mustang IV. I asked everyone to help me choose an AMP since I had Absolutely No Clue as where to Start. I asked for an Amp that was of Good Quality that would last me a long time on a relatively Small Budget. I also told them I was an Absolute Beginner Guitar Student. I realized that Today I don't need a whole lot of anything fancy since I am unable to play a whole lot and have very little knowledge of what I need to be Listening for other than sound coming from my Amp that is Clean. What I do know is as I Advance My Skill Playing, I am sure I would desire something Nicer than a cheap Amp ( I already have one of those little 5 watt ones that doesn't sound very good). I wanted to buy an Amp Advanced Enough to keep me satisfied for a few years so not to need to go get a New Amp every couple of years as my Playing Skill progresses. The Mustang Modeling Amp was the recommendation from most everyone I talked with. So I chose the Mustang IV since it had Dual Speakers and the Stereo Effect the other models ( Mustang I,II & III) didn't have. I wasn't sure what it would do for me in the Future but for just a little more money I figured I'd be Happy with the Amp for much longer. Also since it is a Modeling Amp, I will have the opportunity to kinda get an idea of what Type of Amp I might want when that time comes. I will tell you this, I can put my Amp "Master Volume" on 2 and play in my Bedroom without disturbing the Household yet able to Hear what I am playing with the Jam Along Tracks I use playing on my Surround Sound System or I can Crank it up to 8 and Play for the Neighborhood.....so I feel like this is a Great Amp for Me and will absolutely fulfill my needs for quite a long time. The Only thing I don't like is that is only has 1 Guitar Input and I wish it had 2 so my Friend could plugin his Guitar with me. For now he just brings his Line 6 Amp from home and by the way, he says he like my Mustang IV better....but he is also a Student Guitarist as well. Anyways, I hope this might Help you while you consider your next Amp. If you do have the ability to go play your Guitar at one of the Guitar Dealers, I think that would be your best bet. I wish You well on your Search.
