I am looking for information about the factory strings which come on the FA-100 Acoustic. I recently was watching a YouTube on changing strings and the Presenter said guitars are matched with strings that give it the best sound. I have changed strings several times on my guitar but I am not sure I am using the correct string type and gauge, would anyone know the answer to my question. I contacted Fender via e-mail but have had no response.

Thanks :D

Use the kind of strings you prefer. There's no need to go out of your way to use exactly what the factory installed. Most acoustics come with lights (12s) in either 80/20 Bronze or else Phosphor-Bronze. My preference is Custom-Lights (11s) in 80/20 Bronze.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

First tip...don't believe everything you read on the internet and certainly not everything you see on Youtube! While the internet...and Youtube...are, in general, a great source of information, they are likewise an tremendous source of mis-information. In other words, any blathering idiot (myself included) can claim to be an expert and post something and not necessarily know what the devil they're talking about (umm...myself included).

As BMW there suggested, use what you prefer. Like your guitar, amp, etc., guitar strings tend to be a very personal choice. Generally I try to not speak for others, however in this case I suspect that if you poked around the forums here at Fender, you'd likely find that the majority of us all have our own preferences when it comes to string brand and gauge. Personally I use (and recommend) GHS Boomers on my electrics and Ernie Ball Earthwood's on my acoustics (and either Bass Boomers or Rotosounds on my Basses). I tend to stick with .10's all the way around so I have a moderately consistent feel between my instruments (except for my 12 strings which get Earthwood .09's and my basses of course). At some point or other, I've probably tried every brand of strings out there...I have around 25 guitars at the moment so I go thru A LOT of strings...and those, Earthwoods and Boomers, are what I've found works best for me.

I would like to add a quick addendum here...should you change string gauge from what your guitar had on it from the factory, it's ALWAYS a good idea to have the guitar properly setup as well. If your guitar came with .09's for example and you move up to 11's, the heavier string causes more tension on the neck (which will likely need a truss rod adjustment) and the thicker gauge could very likely bind in the nut slots. Don't be afraid to experiment with brands and sizes...it's the only way you'll learn what works best for you, however once you've found something you like (size-wise at least) and have had your guitar setup for them, it's usually best to stick with them, otherwise you're guitar will probably need some work every other time you change strings.

Good luck!
