Hello there. I wanted to seek advice from the experts here regarding a buffer pedal. I think I might benefit from one but wanted to get some input as to where in my chain I might put one. I run from guitar into a large but fairly simple pedal board and then into the front of a 2x12 combo. Here is a basic flow chart...

guitar
18.5' cable into Ernie Ball VP Junior 25K Volume pedal (6" cable from tuner out into Polytune 2 mini)
1' cable into Dunlop wah
1' cable into Line 6 DM4
1' cable into Line 6 DL4
3' cable into Line 6 MM4
1' cable into Line 6 FM4
10' cable into amp

I feel my sound right now is OK but it does sound a little flat instead of bright and crisp. I have space left on my board for a buffer. I am looking at the MXR/Custom Audio Electronics MC406 as a small investment but wasn't sure where exactly in my chain I would put it. Based on what I have seen online, possible after the wah before the distortion but wanted to see what others who use buffers have done.

You probably don't need a buffer The main problem is the volume pedal. The 25Kohm will load the guitar pickups and drain the bright resonant peak down to dull tone.
Distortion pedals will change their tone depending on drive level, so the volume pedal should go last in the chain to maintain a constant level through the chain.
This Ernie Ball pedal is designed for active electronics, not a passive guitar. If it's last in the chain the active electronics of the chain can drive it ok without affecting the tone. However, a 500Kohm volume pedal would be better.

Thanks I actually reordered a couple of the pedals and changed out a couple patch cables to shorter lengths last Friday and seem to be good now. BTW, I went with the 250K volume because most of the guitars I use with that rig are EMG equipped. I hadn't considered putting the volume last in the chain because I have it coupled to my tuner and didn't want to feed a colored signal to the tuner.
