Granted I haven't played all around the world, but in 4-ish years since I've been gigging, I have never played in a club or somewhere without a PA. Concert halls, sports halls, parties, etc., they've always got a PA and a sound engineer. Some are better, some are worse. But an amp open to 3 will always sound better than an amp muffled down to 1.5 to barely produce any sound.
We have a very loud drummer and I never open up my 22W Deluxe Reverb past 2.5, perhaps 3 (depending on how much we've had to drink) during band practice or live gigs. Well, it's usually 3 or 3.3 during gigs just to get a better sound.

I had a Fender SuperSonic, 60W tube amp and it was too loud. I could turn it down using FX loop input and output levels and turning it down all the way still meant I could barely open it to 2.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Twin or anything. But in 2015, I simply don't see the need to drag a heavier amp that takes up more space in car etc when you can't even open it up to get a proper sound. Yes, country is a bit different, but usually people prefer their tube amps at the point of breaking up. With a Twin, you'll be too loud in most venues if you open it up that much (ok, you can do it on a version with master volume but yeah). The result? The vocals and everything that's mic'ed will have to be turned up, often past their optimum point, resulting in a band way too loud and often everything will just sound howling like crazy making a very awful experience for the public.

I'm so close to sitting my Twin Reverb on the street. I guess I should let you guys know where I sit it so one of you can scoop it up. They're hard to resell because most people know it's too much amp to buy. Guess someone will get lucky at a yard sale someday
