I've recently decided to switch over from piano and put my full musical attention into guitar. I've also had to switch from a right to lefty guitar. So it was like learning all over again. My fingers hurt a little bit the first few days(who doesn't?) but I'm totally over that now. Right now the question I wanted to ask is that my wrist is getting pretty sore from practicing bar chord ( damn you b major/minor). What worries me the most is that my wrist makes clicking noises when I move it around now. I never practiced this much when playing guitar on the right side. Is it normal and will it go away? Funny thing is that I'm only practing 1and1/2 hour to 2 hours max every day. Not that much

I also wanted to ask some advice from the pros how to practice faster picking, or shredding(though I'm not really sure what the term actually refer to...) between different strings. I know I can get a decent speed on one string, but how to a play a scale up and down all six strings and the best way to practice? It's something I haven't figured out yet.

Playing any type of interment will give you a sore. from guitar, to trombone to violin. The key is to the issue with your wrist is don't over play. We all can't learn a interment in one night. so when your wrist starts hurting, take a break.

If its not that, then its time to look into "stretching" your wrist and hands. shown on this website here. http://www.drfoot.co.uk/wrist_pain/Wris ... onitis.htm

and for my advice on faster picking, and so called "shredding" i suggest learning scales. like the Harmonic scale.

Good luck out there hope it helps.

Check your playing position. Don't play in one position all the time - stand up, sit down, lie on your back, adjust the guitar strap etc. Take five occasionally.

I agree with the other posts... too much too soon can be bad. As an X-ray tech, I know that the carpals in your wrists are held in place by ligaments which can be injured through trauma or overuse. Do you do warm up excerises before you practice? You should whether you are a new player or a pro. For wrists/forearms, I like the exercise where you hold both arms out to your sides with your palms facing down. Then, without moving your arms, slowly flex your wrists so your fingers are pointing at the ceiling. Then do the opposite so your fingers point towards the floor. I repeat this 5 to 10 times before I play/practice and it helps loosen me up. I also do finger warm up exercises that I can write about if you are interested.

It sounds like you are putting your all into your new instrument and that's great but don't forget to take breaks. As mentioned in an earlier post, taking breaks is important. You can still get your daily 1 1/2 to 2 hours practice time in but break it up into 20 to 30 minute sessions.

Enjoy your new instrument and have fun! Don't pressure yourself and make it a chore.
