Just purchased a pinwheel. Where should it go in my pedal chain? Last in the chain? It is very noisy too. Does it need any special treatment?
The other pedals I have in order are Pugilist, mirror delay and a marine reverb then pinwheel.
Any help appreciated.

Welcome to our forum.

If you mean the Fender Pinwheel; ie: a Leslie or Rotary Speaker simulator, I would place it later in the chain.

I personally would switch the delay and the Leslie.
Place the Pinwheel ahead of the delay and ahead of reverb.
That's me though.
There are no hard and fast rules.
You can place them any way you want.
Trial and error is the best way to learn.

Generally speaking the commonly accepted pedal order is something like this:

If a pedal is noisy it usually does not last very long in my setup.
I've tried quite a number of Leslie sims and there are 3 that stand out as being quite good and one that I ended up with because I felt it suited my needs the best.
The 3 that stand out are:
Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere - very nice, very authentic sounding, very large, very heavy
Tech21 RotoChoir - very nice, much smaller and lighter
Strymon Lexx - my choice, very expensive but I feel the best pedal.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Good reference drawing.
Also note that if the amp has an effects loop, anything after the distortion/OD should be placed there to help reduce the preamp from amplifying the "swish" that is often present from Chorus/Flanger type effects.
