Hi, I come to you with a question.

I own an early 2000's Fender Champion 40, and I have been quite satisfied with it using it in my appartment, is not too loud to bother my neighbors, but I felt that it needed a speaker upgrade and searching for options I have the chance to get a WGS Invader 50 at a very good price on eBay, but I noticed it is a 16ohm Speaker.

I also liked the demo of the Invader 50 in WGS webpage, is more likely to the tone I am searching for rather than the famous ET-65, that´s why I am considering it.

My question is if it would hurt both the amp or speaker to replace the stock speaker with this WGS. considering I am putting a bigger impedance speaker than the output of my amp.

I hope I was clear enough, since I don´t understand much of this topics.

Thank you all

As a general rule of thumb, you will have no issues going to a higher impedance (less load) on a solid state amp, or to a lower impedance (higher load) with a tube amp.
In practicality, running an 8-ohm output into anything from 4-16 ohms will not present a problem, especially with a solid state amp. It will actually run a bit cooler into 16 ohms.

You may notice a slight drop in volume as well.

The rule of thumb I live by is as follows:
Using a speaker with a higher ohm rating than called for by the amp is OK and you should expect a volume drop.
A speaker with a lower ohm rating than called for by the amp should raise a caution flag and you should only proceed if you are certain it is OK.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

As long as one keeps in mind the impact of the change on the output stage.
A higher impedance on a tube amp reduces the current, which increases the voltage potential... You can run a solid state amp open-circuit without a problem, but tube amps have shorting output jacks because an open circuit will potentially arc the tubes, while a short circuit will just run the transformer hot.
Likewise, a short circuit on a solid state amp will blow the output transistors.
