The SCX2 is my first tube amp, less than a week now and really enjoying it. I have two ss amps that I turn on and off multiple times during a session. Should I avoid that with tubes?

Dear bargemule

Turning your Amp off and on is not a problem. The most wear on tubes are when sound is being produced, so by definition it's less wear when no sound is produced. It should also be clear that there will be more wear when the amp is on than when it's switched off, so powering the Amp off when not using it is fine. I hoped this helped and please let us know if we can assist you further

Regards,

This is a good question. And before I read an actual ^^^Fender Tech's answer^^^ I would have guessed "no, do not be turning it off and on multiple times in a night".
A 'Stand-By' switch has GOT to have a purpose (yes I know this and some other tube amps don't have one) otherwise manufacturers wouldn't waste time and money to install them. Am I right or wrong?

Tubes have a lot more 'warmth' (no pun intended) when they are warmed up and kept warm.

I guess it would depend on how long of a "break" is a person taking?
If you're just sitting the guitar down to use the restroom, or run upstairs to grab another beer, and plan to get right back to it...why would you shut it off? However; if you,re at a gig, and plan on a 30 - 45 minute break between sets, I suppose it may be worth your time to shut it down---but seems like you'd wanna turn it on 5 minutes or so before taking stage again, to warm the tubes back up.

I don't know? Maybe it's just me...but (without a Stand-By switch), in my experience, it seems better to leave it on and keep the tubes warm if you're not done using the amp for the night.

Fender TSL said it is ok to turn it off and on...but is it also ok to leave it on through breaks as well? i.e.- 4 hour gig playing time of 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 of that 4 hours
