I've owned 4 different SCX2 amps. One was a head version. I have #4, a combo amp, in my possession now. It was supposed to be in a "blem" category, according to the seller. I can't find a darn thing awry with this amp, except maybe a couple areas in the tolex on top that looks a bit odd. Other than that, she's a keeper. And I got a steal on it. With all the paperwork and registration info intact. $303.99, shipped to the front door!
But, I digress! I've done mods to, and sold the others. I do all my own work. What are y'all's favorite mods to do to this amp? I'm curious as to what other players are doing, or not doing, to this amp. All input is appreciated, brothers. Thanks.

Yes, I know this thread is nearly 2 years old...and Tonemstr is most likely never coming back.

But it brings up a good point (in my mind), and curious minds want to know.

Dude said he's had four SCX2's, and at this point had "modified" three of them (assuming to HIS taste) and then sold them. And THEN bought a fourth one.
What? What makes people do this? If you modify an amp (because obviously you're not content with the 'stock' amp)....once you get it where YOU like it, why get rid of it and start over?

I wanna know Tonemstr's story, but I'm afraid we'll never get it. Can anyone tell me, what drives a mind-set like this? Boredom?

I recently bought an SCX2 and was relatively happy with the channel 1 tone. But, i wanted to change tubes and decided to change the speaker, too. I bought JJ's from Eurotubes and the rebiasing was actually pretty easy. I installed an Eminence Lil Buddy, plugged it all in and was amazed. Much smoother tone and much louder.
Next to my Carr Rambler, the Carr is much more refined and 3D sounding. But, the SCX2 is pretty darn close. Perfect home or practice amp and with the upgrades, this could easily work in a small venue setting.
Great value. For less than $150 in upgrades and about 45 minutes of labor it has been transformed into a great little amp. Obviously, only bias the amp if you are knowledgeable and comfortable in dealing with the circuitry. And, i am not sure how much the tube change did since I changed the speaker at the same time. The speaker is a must and an easy installation.
