Sold my tweed nos tweed blues jr. the other day on CL. Let it go for $350. Only lost $60 out of pocket. Picked it up new for cash plus an old bicycle my X left me. I Added a cover and put on the tilt back legs. Really liked the amp, gained some additional basic understanding about amps, speakers and cabinets while I owned it. Kinda like a 7 month long term rental.

Took the cash and bought a spanking almost new “bought for the kid to learn on” blonde SCXD with cover and foot switch for $200, guy lived in the same town. He was kind enough to deliver it for me. Looks cool, looks like twins almost. Also picked up a Morley A/B box to run the two side by side today while I hang out during the storm.

Played with them last night on CH1. The XD was more present/louder when vol 1 was at 5, treb 5, and bass 5 on both amps. Used a little reverb at the same setting for both. By blending the volumes so the sound stage moved more to the perceived middle. I decreased the XD vol 1 to 4 and increased the X2 vol 1 to 6. I'm sure this means nothing, though I am curious what I might get for readings with my SPL meter for each amp. Both have OEM tubes and speakers. Checking the bias is beyond my expertise and i lack any of the basic test equipment at this time. That's not to say I can't learn how, in a few more years. For now I'll stick with wood.

As an observation to be taken with a grain of salt. The XD cab is built better in a couple of ways IMO. The blonde tolex looks virtually sprayed on, and does not have those seams like my X2. I prefer the taller rubber feet on the XD which allowed me to stack the XD on top of the X2. The XD speaker baffle has cleats secured to the cabinet interior, in-turn the baffle is screwed to the cleats from the inside. I noticed the difference because my X2 cab would resonate whenever I played a low G or A (sixth string) at high volume. The X2 speaker baffle is secured with one screw from each side on the upper portion. The bottom half rest in a rabbit and was relying on the pressure to hold it in place. People did comment on this in other threads. My solution was to inset a spongy piece of 1/8” thk cut to fit, shelf liner to act as a shim for the entire slot. No buzz.

I'm stoked, basically this will give me some parts to play with. I can make a head out of the X2. Design and build and an open/closed speaker cab with the X2 OEM 10” speaker, for my Greta. Upgrade the 10” speaker in the XD combo. Sell the blonde X2 combo cab. Design and build a matching cab with a couple of speakers for the head. I've got options...

Just a comment to start the day. Everyone stay safe while u ride out the storm.
