Any idea for generic Stevie Ray Vaughan settings? Usuable for Lenny, Little Wing or Mary had a Little Lamb?

I'm a big SRV fan (who isn't, and if you're not, just quit) and I own quite a few Strats and I'm convinced at this point that a big part of his tone (aside from just being him and having his fingers of course) is the ridiculously thick gauge strings he used (I believe he used 13's for the high E). I also believe he tuned them down a half step to ease the tension (I'd be afraid my neck would snap in half). I typically use 9's and although easy to play, they just don't have the depth and richness of thicker strings, especially without high gain. Of course using a rosewood necked Strat through a vintage Fender amp with a Tube Screamer is a big part too, but I think the gauge is what a lot of people are missing to get closer to that SRV sound. Just my thoughts, don't be super hardcore and rip them apart :p

True. Also the Dumble and other amps he used. Of course his skill in playing was the real key, his fingers, his feel. All hard to duplicate. The SCX2 might have some of that in it, all you gotta do is experiment with Fuze and channel 2 go through the presets until you find something close, then tweak it in fuze to bring it closer. If you persist you will find it.......

All of you are right and I know all that. That's why I wrote 'generic SRV tone'.
I don't want to play a copycat tone of SRV, Hendrix or Gilmour but I like to have a kind of fragrance in my tone.
Difficulty for me with SRV is my references are on YouTube so the sound is not very good and so difficult to analyse

That's why SRV left the mark he did. There are few and far between guitarist that no one can come close to replicating - and SRV is definitely one of them. I hear so many things on Pandora of new guitarists trying to be him and you can tell they've dedicated their lives to being a second SRV knowing all his licks and trying to replicate his tone, yet they're not even close. I met a guy who said he was the guitarist in a SRV and Double Trouble cover band and told me this with a sort of disposition and tone like "you should be impressed" and all I could say was "well that's certainly ballsy."

Part of everyone's influence from their favorite players is not only their songs and licks, but obviously their tone. And I really think it's awesome to learn from other players and pick out the pieces you like. Throughout the years my overall biggest influences have been Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. I love Eric's "singing violin" type tone but also like a little more bite at times like Vai's. So at this point my tone has evolved into a nitro finished Strat with high output DiMarzio humbuckers through a Bk Tube Driver into a Mesa with delay and light reverb with the tone on the humbucker rolled back a bit. Sort of a paradox in all directions but it balances everything I need and like. I'm never going to play like Johnson or Vai, but I've seemed to find what suits me best with their help.

I want to!
But it ain't never gonna happen. Not for any of us. Not with any equipment. Not ever.
I've come darn close to Stevie Ray, and Gilmore...but ain't never gotten nowhere near Hendrix.

Everyone is a little different, and there isn't no duplicating it. There's no harm in trying----where do you think "influence" comes from---but nobody will ever be anybody else.
Just have fun with whatever sounds YOU put out.

You gotta play with passion and fire! So much of Stevie's sound came from the heart and soul behind every note he played.

Every guitar player sounds a bit different and that is great. If we all sounded the same life would be boring.
