dbm - you know you want one, you know you're going to buy one. Just go do it! I still think my SCX2 is the best amp I ever had, and I had a few nice Fenders back in the late 60's.

It could happen, especially if they come out with a newer version like the X3 that we all fantasized about a few months back. Right now I am standing pat. We shall see.

A few months ago, I was looking at the specs for the Champion series amps. If Fender would make those Fuse compatible, like a copy of the Super Champ but with the solid state power amps, they'd have a real winner. The amps would be different enough from the Mustang line that I don't think they'd compete with each other. If only we were in charge.....

I had a pair of Frontman amps one time to put my Digitech GNX2 through for house practice, They sounded good with the GNX2 in front. In fact I played one of them a month and a half ago at my brother in laws house (I gave it to him a few years back and sold the other one to a beginner 5 or so years ago) I ain't into solid state amps anymore, even though they do give decent clean tone none of them can compare to the tone you can get from over driven tubes if you know how to set them.

Fender is nothing if not market savvy! I have read reviews of the Super Champ X2 and older XD where the reviewer pondered why no 40 watt or 100 watt version. But I think if Fender did make a pro version of the Super Champ, it would cancel out a large portion of their other amp lineups. The Hot Rod series and Mustang series at least would be obsoleted.

I had a SCX2 for about a week or 2 and returned it for a Blues Jr. and am as happy as can be. Try a Jr. and a stomp box or 2 and get the fx you need with much better cleans than the SCX2.

I replaced the X2 with an Egnater Tweaker 15 watt Head into an EVM 12L one twelve open back cabinet (of which I have 2 of laying around unused until the Tweaker showed up) I have several stomps I use in front of it, and it is one of the very best tonal sounding setups I have ever owned, and I have been playing since 1966. The only thing the X2 has over the new setup is portability and no effects needed. One amp, one guitar, one trip in-out. Now it is one guitar, one speaker cab, one head, and one pedal board, 2 trips in/out.

That is cool, I am not a gigging muscian, just an in home kind of player. I started playing when I was 56 on acoustics and just bought this setup a few weeks ago after many trips to GC and countless hours of research. The X2 was great but the Blues jr is just superior in sound quality to what I am looking for. alot of cleans and some dirty when I need it. Pedals in the future are a Dirty little secret, or Big muff, and a looping pedal, and that is it, no more! All this is regarding my advancement in learning after lessons coming soon!

PS: I am now 60 Whew!

Tubes are good. I liked the SCX2 for it's portability, and no external devices needed other than the footswitch. I did change out the speaker to an Eminence Lil Buddy 10" Hemp Cone speaker.

But for tone between a stock X2 and the Blues Jr, no contest. The all tube setup always wins in my book.

I am 72 years old and still pickin and a grinnin.
