Sold my Super Champ X2 guitar amp tonight, played it for a year and a half, lost $120 or so on the deal. I also had an Eminence Lil Buddy speaker in it. Now I have $1,350 in recently sold gear money to spend on a new 20 to 30 watt amp with 6V6 or 6L6 power tubes in it. I want something real small and light, all tube, with reverb if possible, channel switching is optional must have a full tone stack with bass, mids, treble, and presence.

Modwiz I will catch you on the Fender Modern guitar amps board hear and there.

It was a surprise to me also, and once I did it, after searching the net I realized I could not replace it in it's size for an all tube amp without spending a grand.

Now this is peaking my interest a bunch.

With the cage option and efx loop option

It is not a combo but I can lug one of my 1-12 cabs easy enough

I would think a lot of really nice amps would fit those requirements in that price range. Except for "light". You're probably right to look at separate amps and speakers rather than a combo. Good luck in your search. Finding and buying new gear is always fun. I'm jealous.

I am expanding my SCX2 rig. My Mojotone 12" cab comes tomorrow. Still waiting for my Weber Blue Dog. I ordered them the same day. Blue Dog is not for the cab but the HRD.
C.Rex coming out of it goes in the cab and will sit under the 10" combo.

I'll bet that amp DBM is eye-balling would sound nice on that cab. :D

Finding a decent replacement for the SCX2 is actually gonna be a hard find without playing a grand for an all tube version that does the things I had the X2 doing. I might wait until they make the X3 (if ever).

I got the flue so a trip to GC is out of the question for another week (and I actually got the flu shot this year) But so far on the net, I cannot come up with a single combo that size worth considering for less than a thousand bucks.

I did break out my old Epiphone Valve Jr head and one of my EVM12L loaded 1-12 cabs, and I am using my pedal board in front of it. Which gives me the cleans, the reverb, and the one overdrive, I need for my mixes. But as far as tone is concerned, the SCX2 beats that whole rig hands down. I do use the same pedal board in front of my Hot Rod Deluxe, and of the three amps, the Valve Jr comes in last in tone, the HRD first.

The one thing that impresses me with the Valve Jr is; it is quite a bit louder at 5 watts than the SCX2 was at 15 watts (disclaimer; I am using an EVM12L after the Valve Jr which is a much more efficient speaker than the Lil Buddy I had in the SCX2)(I did try the X2 through that same cab when I bought the X2 and it was significantly louder than the stock X2 speaker). I never did BIAS the SCX2 to see if I could maximize the loud on it because it was more than loud enough for the use I had for it.

Biasing is an absolute must with this amp. I've been finding them to be "cold" coming from Fender. I check the plate voltage before hand. Bias to mA, then check the PV again. Running matched NOS/JAN 6V6GTs at around 22mA. She sounds great. But yeah, biasing is a must.

I tried one out should have bought it. I have a 69 Princeton so about the same power. My friend has a new Princeton Re-issue. I like the Hot Rod Amps, and the Blues Junior is very popular here. If I didn't have a vintage Princeton I would have snagged the super champ in a heartbeat

I may have a guitar sold this weekend and if it sells, I am tempted to buy a new SCX2, and Lil Buddy Speaker and the foot switch. It was such a nice little grab and go amp with all the bells and whistles anyone would need. I would not call it a gigging amp, but I think it was a very capable little grab and go practice amp.

Sold the acoustic, the money went into my money market account. I can access it any time I want to.... So I may or may not be buying the SCX2 anytime soon. I did replace it with an Egnater Tweaker head and a pedal board. That means 2 extra trips with the extra speaker cab and extra pedal board. We shall see how it goes next time I have to lug the stuff out. I am making a trip sometime in August to Northern California, and my guitar and amp/speaker/pedals have to go with me. We shall see how that goes.
