I got a new SCX2 last week and it is extremely bassy and boomy. The only option I've been able to try is to put the bass knob to 1-2... maybe 4 for some of the cleaner channels. The guitar I'm using is a very smooth sounding Agile 3xxx custom with a Pearly Gates neck - usually a VERY sweet sounding guitar. But most of the channel 2 sounds (the presets - haven't tried Fuse) seem muffled and boomy. One Channel one, it seems to boom anytime I go past volume 3- very early and ugly breakup I guess?

On channel 2, putting the volume above 3 and/or bass above 2 or so results in a low boom on the e-string - its not a rattle - its almost like a super-low feedback or just 'mud'. I fretted the low e string at 12th fret and the tone it produced shook the floor and actually got louder- as if feeding back. On volume 3-4.

I've tried 3 different cabs a Laney 2x12, a custom loaded Carvin (Greenbacks) - hell I even bought the 1x12 its supposed to be used with, thinking maybe my cabs just weren't agreeable to the amp.

I also tried lowering my pickups but they are as low as they go and its still not giving me clean tones/clarity.

So I wonder if there's something wrong with the amp. I guess I should take it in - but I wanted to vet the scenario here to see if this is 'just how this amp is' or if this one sounds a little sick.

edit- I should mention I switched out and tried two other guitars - another Pearly gates and a Peavey EXP signature with a SD Jazz neck- both very clean/clear sounding guitars.

I haven't heard of that before, so you might have a bad one. A few things to try, both involve connecting to Fuse.
1. All of the channel 2 presets, as well as channel 1, have the middle control set to about 8. In Fuse you can lower this. Most people drop it to 4 or 5. That might help.
2. In the "Advanced Amp" section, on channel 2, you can select none for speaker cabinet emulation. That might help with the two non-Fender cabs. The Fender 1x12 cab should sound ok with emulations.

I have the combo, using an Epiphone Dot, and I can't say I've had any problems with boomy or extreme bass sounds from the amp. Hopefully others will have more suggestions.

Load Fender Fuze on your computer. In it you can access the middle knob on the clean channel and you will see that it is all the way up, I cut mine down to 5. With Fuze you can also tweak the second channel patches to your musical tastes. When I got my SCX2 combo last year I thought I should send it back it was too bright and piercing for my musical tastes, with Fuze and the addition of an Eminence Lil Buddy Hemp cone speaker I now have a fabulous practice and grab and go amp.

Learn Fuze and it will open up doors that are locked with the on board controls.

I have Fuse loaded but didn't tweak it yet - I wanted to see what the community said first. Let me give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll report back.

Bleh- I tried the mids adjustment, and the cab sims and just tweaking in general. The only way to get a bass tone that isn't a roaring mess is to put bass down on 1-2. This can't be as intended =/

I've tried 5 guitars (all humbuckers)- all the same result. Lower output singles seem to have less of an issue, but some of these HB guitars are vintage output or slightly hotter and I've backed some of the pickups way off (max in one case) and all the same result.

Does this amp just hate humbuckers?

My guitar has humbuckers, and I don't have the problem. Sounds like a problem with the amp.
