Hi guys
I might have the chance to do a straight swap for my mustang III v2 for super champ x2 both only a
year old and in same condition with no marks or scratches.
I play in a duo and used to use a blackstar ht5 and that was plenty loud enough so superchamp at 15watts should be ok.
What are your opinions on the swap, anyone who had both?
Thanks

I have both. The SC X2 will definitely be loud enough for that use.

Whether it's a good trade depends on what features are important to you. For example, the SC has no fx loop, nor does it have the footswitch options the MIII does. No midrange knob either.

On the plus side, it sounds great, and you're already familiar with all the modelling options- they have all the V1 models plus a jazzmaster. (solid state clean). It also has a speaker out- so you can connect it to any 8 ohm cab.

You get reverb ( room hall and spring), chorus, delay, tremolo, and vibratone. All are quite good, but you only have a level and tap tempo to control them. This is partially solved by the options- ie deep chorus, fast chorus, etc. there are also combo options: reverb +delay; Chorus+ reverb etc. They do the job fine, but if you're used to the Mustang level of tweakability...

It IS connectable to fuse, and you'll get more options there- like using the 16 positions on the voicing knob to store your own sounds.

There's no stomp or dirt options, but you really don't need them. The amp is not THAT loud - you can push it and let it do the work without blowing your audience out the front windows. plus, you can always just use a higher gain model. The Brit 70's (plexi) model is particularly nice to my ears for a nice rock sound.

I HAVE to be quiet when I play, so I always use a stomper when I use this amp to get most of my dirt. I've tried several, and they've all sounded good with no issues. The main input seems to have more headroom than the Mustang's does.

Then of course- you have a real pair of 6v6's as the output section. Getting these cooking only makes this amp sound better!

In sum: I have NO intentions of selling mine any time soon. Nor will I be selling my Mustang.

Thanks pyroman for great reply.
When you say you don't get dirt options,
How does it sound with channel 2 voicing with a low gain amp say one of the deluxe amps with the gain on high and using the overdrive stomp box in fuse?
Thanks

I've never actually hooked it up to fuse. I'm kind of a techno-luddite... (I'd actually forgotten you COULD get added fx via fuse   )

I HAVE done what you said with a real pedal in front of it. I didn't kick it in the teeth with level boost, as it IS a solid state preamp. My results were very good, though. Boss Blues Driver, OCD, MXR Classic distortion- all sounded great. That MXR especially stacks well with the ch2 when you get it nicely dirty. Into the clean channel, it doesn't do that much- add it to an already dirty sound- NOW we're talkin'!
