I purchased my first digital amp last December, a Mustang II. I haven't had any problems and like the sounds on some of the presets.

However, I have been looking at the Super Champ line, but am relunctant, because there will be hot tubes placed alongside digital components. I have had two other newer Fender tube amps and both crapped out within six months, so I am not looking for a repeat here.

What kind of problems can I expect from the Super Champ? Is it considered reliable?

Thanks

I wouldn't think the heat from the tubes would be enough to hurt the electronics. I have a Mustang 1 and am also considering a Super Champ X2. What were the problems with your other tube amps? I'd hate to buy a new amp and have it die in a six months.

One of the amps was a USA made Pro Junior, the other was a Hot Rod. Not a big fan of the newer Fender tube amps, unless it is a vintage BF or SF.

By contrast, the Mustang II runs cool, which is why I gave it a whirl. Only issue with it is it sometimes drifts to a new preset, which is why I would never gig with it. Soundwise, it is very decent.

My concern with the Super Champ is hot tubes stuffed into a confined space with electrical components and no fan for ventilation.

I have several Fender amps. A Hot Rod Deluxe and a Super Champ X2 both are excellent amps, super reliable, and the SCX2 does have some small tubes in it and they do heat up but it seems to work OK. I use it for about half my daily practices, and have owned it for a year. Go for it, it is returnable for 30 days or so depending on the merchant you buy it from, and also guaranteed for 5 years by Fender as long as you do not alter it.

I love my SCX2. Reliable, stable voicings, with useful effects that can be controlled well enough from the amp.

desertbluesman & modwiz - thanks for the positive comments on the amp. I've read through all your other posts here about the SC and an X2 is in my near future. I enjoy all the music posts, too. Keep 'em coming!

Twice now I've left mine on for over 24 hours with no ill effects. I play this thing at some pretty significant volumes ( thru a 2x12 hemp cone cabinet ) and have had no heat related issues.

I think Fender has enough experience with tube technology that they got it right on these things.

Enjoy,
-Harry
