Hi Guys,

Longtime fender guitar and amp fan - just bought a new SCX2. She sounds great. In my absolutely silent room there is a slight hum once the tubes of my SCX2 warm up. It's pretty quiet but I've noticed my other amp (a Jet City) is dead silent. The hum occurs with and without a cable plugged in and is completely unchanged by any of the controls. It occurs on 3 different outlets in my home. Again the noise is pretty soft but I can't help but notice my other amp is dead silent. Is this normal behavior for an SCX2?

Thanks,
NM

MY SCX2 has always had an audible hum. When I walk into my studio I will know if it is on or not. It is not at all problematic and seems about right.

Enjoy your amp. I was playing through mine just a little while ago.

I have the head version - and run through reactive load for recording.

I have not noticed any hum or noise - but it might be a difference between 230V 50 Hz version that I have and if us version 115V 60Hz.

But I have a stereo amp at home that have mechanical 50Hz noise when it's warm, and have a Marshall JMP rack unit that also does this as soon as I turn it on. The jmp I was able to soften a bit by putting noise attenuating material from motherboard to chassis.

I also have a Behringer rack DI unit that did this mechanical net hum when turned on - and was able to remove that completely by putting rubber material under screws of transforrmer - so mechanical noise can be treated.

So can you tell - is it mechanical noise from transformers or electrical?
Does it exist if using headphone over usb+computerl?

If it does not affect the level when playing I would not worry, really.

I'm with modwiz. My SCX2 has a persistent low-level hum that no longer worries me.
Perhaps it is because I park my instrument in close proximity, or perhaps it's because I'm seated right next to it when playing. Seems to be the nature of the beast. I hope you are otherwise enjoying the amp, because it is a truly excellent practice/small gig amp!

My SCX2 also hums just a little bit. Not enough to worry about however.

So, there you go nm4710. The hum is of no concern so rock on. :D

Perhaps I haven't described the sound accurately. There is a small hum which I figure is normal. However there is also a soft static type sound (like an untuned radio) at idle that I've never encountered on another amp. It could be a really poor noise floor but I'd be surprised given the high quality of Fender amps.

If I turn the amp around and place my ear close to the amp I can hear the speaker making 2 noises: a hum and a static sound. Normal?

Cheers,
NM

I do get a little static type noise when in some of the high gain settings.
