The X2 us getting less attention from me with the HRDIII in the house. Still getting played but, the tone of the HRD is another experience. 6L6's sure rock the house.

The Lil Buddy is a great speaker. I've got mine in a Champion 110, which was a little shrill before it met the Lil Buddy.

I switched out an alnico Red Fang for the Lil Buddy. A really good move. I like anico's but the British voicing is a little wrong for some of my sonic templates. Hemp gives me the resonant "singing" that pleases my ear.

I want to get a cab to pair them. I believe it would be a great tonal pairing. Probably want to upgrade my PT before making full use of the cab. The X2's seem to be a little strained at 8 ohms according to Bill M. I still feel it is capable of handling a 4 ohm load but not at high power for long periods.

What ever happened to being able to go to to the next paired ohmage setting downwards? 2:1?

I want to try the Red Fang with the C Rex as well. The HRD has no problem with 8 or 4 ohms. Ceramic hemp with alnico paper might be very sweet. :D

Oh yes the X2 is nowhere near as full toned and hi fidelity as the HRD. But it is a great little grab and go amp, lightweight, very capable and good enough for most jams and car trips....

I am very happy with the X2. It is definetely the amp most likely to go with me to a small venue. Same with my Bronco.

The ability to get nice fat tone in high distortion styles at low volumes is something I really like about the X2. The 10" speaker is very good at this.

The X2 will be my grab and go amp, especially when I drive over to Northern California to visit the wifeys family and usually spend up to a week there. The house is way back in the mountains, and all I have to do there usually, is to play music, (and games on my I-Pad) So a guitar and amp is absolutely necessary. Fortunately the household is a musical household so they have a PA and I can play my backing tracks through that.

I also have a Gallien Kruegar ML250 Micro Lead with 2-6" speakers, but it is not quite as capable as the X2 for anything loud enough to keep up with a drummer, plus it don't have reverb although it does have a nice overdrive sound for a solid state amp and a chorus and dealy. The X2 blows the ML250 away easily. Although it is much bigger than the ML250.

Or at least its wooded parking area. :P

Does anyone have experience with both of these configurations and can tell me your perceptions? With the separate cabinet being closed back, is the unit louder than the combo? I realize the overall tone would be a little fuller what with a 12", but is it a big difference? Any input is appreciated!

I like open back cabs. Bass aside, the airiness and ambiance that results from the main output of the front of the speaker mixing with the "overflow' coming out the back, makes for a more organic and real tone for my ears. Music is like air for me and I am not a big fan of gusts in my face.

For me, the cab is the difference, sound wise. I feel the X2 is a great grab and go amp, as DBM says, in the combo version. Some guitar players are making use of the amp in more hard rock settings and find that the head is more suited for their needs. There is no doubt that the X2 is a fine Fender amp for those whose needs it fits. At its price point, it is hard to beat for what it offers.

I've been tempted to buy the Canis Major, 12" alnico magnet hemp cone, but so far haven't.

That speaker is on my bucket list. I would love to have that speaker. One component at a time. I wish my red fang had a hemp cone. It wouldn't be British voiced then and that would work for me.

For me, it is a trip I take to provide an easy getaway stay at the wifeys sisters house for the wife. I do all of the driving while the wife sits and watches the trees and scenery. 14 hours of go, go, go. Then it is several days of abject boredom until I get back on the road home. Then 10 to 12 hours of go, go, go until I hit the Sonoran desert on I-10 somewhere east of Indio California. Once I see the Saguaro Cactus then I know I am nearing home. The gateway to heaven is just a few hours east on I-10 to Sun Valley Parkway then 30 miles to home. Once I step in my door, and set the AC or heat, unload the car, and sit and rest, then it is heaven......

I think the next time we go I will go up through Las Vegas stay overnight, and take Nevada 95 all the way to I-80 east of Reno and on into California as far as Ca 20 then 20 all the way to Lower lake Ca. via some smaller roads. A few extra hours overall but a night in Vegas is Ok by me. And reverse that trip on the way back.

Sounds better to me than I-10 to I-210 to I-5 through the LA Metroplex (which is the fastest way) I have been every route from here to there and the 10 to 210 and 5 is the absolute fastest way by several hours......

^^^^^^^^^^

Still sounds like fun. Need pics to be sure.

The few times I was in California I was so happy. I'd buy a box of frozen taquitos watch crappy movies on cable and it felt awesome. Played some chess outdoors and walked around neighborhoods with dirty hippies in them. Didn't even have a girlfriend. Maybe that was the key.
