Does anyone have experience with both of these configurations and can tell me your perceptions? With the separate cabinet being closed back, is the unit louder than the combo? I realize the overall tone would be a little fuller what with a 12", but is it a big difference? Any input is appreciated!

I tried my X2 Combo through an extension cabinet. The ext cab has an EVM 12L in it, it was a bit louder than the on board 10" speaker, I did not notice any large tonal difference.

I have used my X2 combo head with a number of speakers and cabinets. Each one lends a very different sound. Some are very different. The veracity of this is demonstrated well with fender fuse software and other programs like it. Changing cabinets in this software yields differences ranging from subtle to markedly different. Sometimes I wish I had bought just the head, but the combo is a very nice complete unit by itself.

I have an Eminence 10" Red Fang alnico speaker in my X2 and it sounds amazing. However, I have played the X2 through my Emi 8" hemp speaker and the musicality of the tone is on another level of delight. Hemp fibers 'sing' in a fashion that paper does not. It resonates better. The longer fibers allow for a development of sound that is very 'musical'. I might have to get an Emi L'il Buddy to get that tone. Putting my Red Fang in a separate cabinet and putting in an OT that can handle 4 ohm loads would allow me to partake of the fullness of 2x10" while mixing the exquisite tonal properties of hemp blended with the magic of alnico compression.

I have a Lil Buddy in mine. Very nice tone from that pairing... I recommend it. In fact I am seriously thinking of putting an Eminence Cannabis Rex in my Hot Rod Deluxe, that is how much I like the hemp cone tone.

I can see the move to a C Rex as one that will be very gratifying to the ear. I will probably have a lil buddy in my X2 within a week or so.

I ordered a lil buddy for my X2. I will have it this Thursday. I bought a HRDlll FSR with a C Rex in the amp as the stock speaker. That is another NAD thread in another category though. :D

Good luck with the HRDIII Modwiz, see my reply over there where you posted your new amp purchase.

I use the head only. Very pleased with! Sounds great, but different, concerning the speaker you use.
Here is a little test of mine with a 12" and a 10" speaker...

I actually liked the stock fender speaker better myself. The Ragin Cajun was a bit brighter. Just my taste, we all have opinions and that is mine......

I actually tried my SCX2 into one of my one twelve speaker cabs I have at home here, my 2 cabs have EVM 12 L's in them. Much more efficient than the on board 10" stock speaker and had significantly more volume than the stock speaker. But it sounded similar, that is why I tried the hemp cone Eminence Lil Buddy, and after it broke in I am liking that speaker and am thinking of trying a Cannabis Rex in the Hot Rod Deluxe. The lows are super crisp, better than anything I ever tried before for lows.

Put the lil buddy in my SCX2 and love it. I will get a cab built for my Red Fang and use it as an extension cab for my soon to arrive HRDIII. It has a C Rex in it and the British voiced alnico Red Fang will compliment the hemp cone magically. Even thought my RF is a 10" speaker, it is a tad louder than the C Rex, so it should hold its own with that speaker even though the 12" will obviously be moving more air. I have my eye on a mojotone tweed cab. They have a grill cloth I really want to have.

The more I play my amp with the hemp speaker the more I like it. It is a whole new sound production experience for me. There are harmonics and overtones I'd never heard before as well as a definition of individual strings in chords that is making me play a little differently to take advantage of the new found clarity. In some cases such clarity might prove unwanted as there is no place to hide.

I took a chance and bought a used lil buddy from Amazon. I was hoping it would be in excellent condition but well played on. I got what I wanted. :D This speaker just sings.

Good news Modwiz, mine took a little breaking in but once it did I never looked back. From then on I became a hemp cone speaker fan....

I can definitely call myself a fan. Almost like the source word, fanatic.

When my new HRDIII arrives tomorrow I have to begin the process of breaking in a C Rex. The drive and more drive channels might get used quite a bit during the break in. I am thinking of cheating with my Ditto looper by recording some chunky chords and some lead note playing (not a strong suit of this bass player) and then letting it take over for me when I take breaks from playing.

I also have the 820H 8" speaker from Emi. It was playing my SCX2 through that gave me my epiphany. Hemp sings in ways paper does not. I like alnico magnets but, hemp allows the ceramic magnets to have a lot of the harmonics that alnico gives.

I am very impressed and pleased with hemp cones. Now I am intrigued about hearing my bass through hemp speakers. I guess I could give a listen to my bass through the HRDIII at an intelligent volume and tone to get a little idea about how hemp sings at those frequencies.
