I have had my amp for 1.5 weeks. It sounded great. Now the sound is very thin and distorted, both channels.

The XD/X2 have the same tubes. Fender has a 5 yr. warranty. Return it and get another.

I didn't buy it locally. I bought it online. The nearest Fender dealer is 150 miles (one way) from me and the nearest service center is 200 miles (one way) from me.

If you are lucky it is one or both of 6V6 output tubes or the 12AX7 tube . Tubes can be damaged in the shipping if no wrap carefully separatly from the amp .

If you are badlucky it is a defective solder ont the printed circuit or any other components like resistor or solid state .

If you want to replace the output tube yourself , you are better to buy same brand if you don't want to adjust bias . Did you know what is bias ?

Any brand of 12AX7 will do the job with no adjustment .

Adjusting bias only if a different brand of tubes is used?
I thought a new output tubes should be biased regardless of brand. :?:

Output tubes should always be biased even if they are the same brand. Just because they are the same brand, there are differences between individual tubes that can throw the bias off in the amp. I know how to bias this amp, but if I replace the tubes myself and bias the amp, I will also void my warranty.

My answer was for yourself and your amp only .

1-If you NEVER do a bias and have no electronic skill ,( tube amp have lethal voltage) AND if you have a brand new amp chance are the same brand tubes won't need a bias .They may work properly like original tubes in the amp. But not sure at 100 %.

2- Bias : Sure this is the best thing to do. A must with any other brand of tubes or if tubes or amps are not close to same years. Tubes and amp builder can change their specs or quality controt on tube could be poor today.

If you have to drive 200 miles to see a tech for bias , best is to bring the amp on waranty . If you have a voltmeter and you are handskill we can help you to do your bias .

Myself I do bias each time with new tube on any kind of amp class AB or A

Remember ; lethal voltage in tubes amps.
