Picked up my X2 today, been having a blast with it!!
I was using a Blackstar HT5RS for a while, whilst not too bad,i've found the X2 very refreshing to use..(it sounds better!!)

One slight problem i'm having is with the USB recording side of things.
I use Sonar X1 with a Cakewalk Powerstudio recording interface(soundcard) which is also USB.

I'm also using Windows 8,so i'm not sure if Fender have as yet released anything for this OS.
If I use the Fender Universal Asio drivers, then Sonar will crash on startup.
If I use Asio4All I get a bit further, but within Sonar I can only select the X2 as both input and output and not the X2 as input and my Soundcard as the output.

The only way I've managed to achieve it is using WDM drivers, which are rubbish.

Any thoughts?

Can't help with the USB side.

Stick a Sure SM 57 in front of the speaker and record the audio live from the speaker. I gave up on all that direct recording stuff a long time ago. I got good results mind you from modelers and direct to Guitar Rig etc. (Not with the X2) But the real deal always sounds a bit better.

Below is a link to a test I did of the X2 early on to see how it recorded. I miked up the speaker with a SM 57 pointed at the rim of the speaker 1" away from the grill cloth, The second half is overdrive, the first is clean.

Hi there,
Nice to virtually meet you!!

Thanks for replying to my post.
I've upgraded my DAW to Sonar X3 as of today, and it's all working fine now.
(intended upgrading to it,just gave me an excuse!!).....

Anyhow, understand your good advice. I have a Shure mic, stand and such so that's the way i'll be going. Just tried the USB option out of curiosity to see what it could do.
I've done a fair few short,original tracks using modelling/floor units,USB seems a bit similar,slightly lesser quality.

I listened to your track, lovely sound and playing. It is a great sounding amp! :D

Now that's the problems out of the way, here's a few tracks I've done using modellers.
Not so much blues,they're a bit heavier sounding. I can play a few styles,i think the X2 can give you the tones you need to do it;

I am stuck at Sonar Producer 8.5.3. X3 won't run on XP SP1 and I ain't upgrading that old DAW for now. To go to a higher OS I need to build a new DAW, and I have kinda lost interest in recording for now anyways. I will listen to your tracks later and let you know what I think.

I've been on the fence about upgrading from X2 to X3. Were there any other killer enhancements to make it worth the price of admission?

I don't know what they did with X3 I stopped following Sonar for now to see what is up until they make a product that runs on XP SP1 (which ain't ever gonna happen) So if no new projects that interest me come up that are important enough to build a new DAW, I am sticking with 8.5.3 Producer Edition. It works just fine.

Not really gone too in depth with X3 as yet coach.
I went straight from X1 to X3, never tried X2.

There are subtle differences, things are smoother, working with tracks is quicker and custom colours for each track is something I will use but I don't really buy Sonar for all the extra stuff you get so I actually downgraded from X1 producer to the basic X3 and saved money.

Thanks Dave,

Guess I will have to spend some time on their website and look into it a bit deeper. I do like the stability of X2, but the UI still sometimes gets me lost!
