Hi there,

How to tell all tubes on the X2 are working fine. Is there a testing option on the X2?

Is it simply the case of turning it on and playing channels 1 and 2?

Regards
Friendl

I never heard about tube testing option .

How to tell if tubes are good ?

1- By listening / ears; if sound good chance tubes are good.

2- Put know good tube and listen if any difference ; same good sound ,chance tubes are good

3- Don't trust tube's tester

I ask a guitar tutor, she said look at the tubes and see if they're orange. If so replace them ?!?

Tubes are always a little bit orange , this is the heater like a bulb lamp .

If power tubes glow too bright this could be a bias too hot . But you need to know what I mean and to know what too look . I guess not .

Your guitar tutor may be good for guitar but for tube amp ..... Or you did not understand all he said :?

Read my first answer , this say all.

You can test your tubes by driving them into microphonics. Use a pencil with an erasure tip, then crank up the amp and gently tap each preamp tube with the erasure end starting with V1, V2 ect. You will know right a way if the tube is microphonic. Do not touch any components with the other hand during the test. However, this informal method will not test for mutual conductance, leakage or value.

If tube are not microphonic this do not mean they are good .

As stated, the test for microphonics does not apply to mutual conductance, leakage or value. You can only test those factors with a tube tester. Generally, preamp tubes will last a long time (the small tubes). In fact, some of the NOS tubes I have used will function properly even with low values (e.g., Telefunken, Mullard, JANs). Output tubes don't last long, thus need replacing more often.
