Today, my SC X2 decided to go wonky on me. I plugged in, turned it on, and got a LOUD humming/feedback noise, followed by a loud POP! then silence. I turned it off, then on again, and got the same thing. Switching to the clean channel got back to normal, but it seems a trifle quieter. I tried again this afternoon, and got the noise again (ch2), but then the sound came back- albeit MUCH quieter. I now need to turn it up to 4-5 to get the same volume level as I normally get at 2 or so. Channel 1 is now louder than ch 2, but still sounds a bit restrained.

The tone doesn't seen as good, either.

Did I perhaps blow a tube? If so. is it one of the 6v6's or the 12ax7 phase inverter?

For what it's worth, yesterday there was a nasty rattle at volume, particularly on bass notes.

I bought it last December from Guitar Center, and got the Pro Coverage, so I should be covered.

I had an X2 with a hum and with pro coverage. I took it back. GC asked if it was damaged, I said no, it has a hum. They said they would repair it. I said Fender's 5 year warranty will repair it, I want it replaced like your sales pitch " if anything ever goes wrong with it" said. I guess I should have thrown it across the parking lot before I took it back cause that's the only way they would replace it. I called GC's corporate office and made them replace it.

Sounds like it might be a power tube or phase inverter

I called Fender, and got the name of my local Fender authorized service center. Dropped the amp off Monday. Hopefully, they get it sorted out with a minimum of fuss.

On a side note, I'd misplaced the receipt for the amp, but Guitar Center were able to find it in their system and print me a new one!

It's fixed!! I picked it up yesterday.

The tech said he found a loose washer in there. He could NOT find anything wrong otherwise, and all the tubes work fine. We plugged it in, turned it on, and demo'd it when I got there. It was turned up pretty loud, and NO RATTLE!! The buzz is gone! The howly, feedbacky, noise and the pops are gone, too.

So jeez, one extra "pocket part" in there was making all that racket.

As an aside, I'd forgotten how good this amp sounds at volume- it just gets so warm sounding! The tech was even commenting on how he liked the crunch.

YAY! my baby is back.
