Just got done playing one of my 45 minute sets today, set 3 to be exact. I play a different set every day as usual, but making music in a craftsman like way, just makes me smile inside. No need to sell it, or show off with it, just doing it makes me happy.

Well thanks to ModWiz I was able to nail that opening chord to "The Kids are Alright", that was an hours worth of playing one night to get that song down.

We have a nice group of musicians on our dock. I am about in the middle of the pack talent wise so it is a lot of fun. I have all the dinosaur rock type influences as well a good country foundation, the bass player is from Jamaica and has a working reggae band, the other guitar player has wicked knowledge as far as alternate chord shapes.

My only fear of aging is arthritis in my hands, playing every day seems to be keeping it at bay.

I am almost 71 years old, and I was a bricklayer by trade, so I have osteoarthritis in both hands, but if you keep using them the pain subsides after a while because your body actually heals the pain a bit somehow if you use the hands. I have not had to go get shots from the hand guy in 5 years, I assume it is because I use the hands daily for practice.

Hey desertbluesman

Just followed your soundclick link. Enjoyed your music, and the lead in Hey Joe. And, Grace, what a voice!

I just tuned 60 and I too have arthritis - fingers point in funny directions. I probably play close to an hour a day. It really does help.

Love your idea of practicing in complete sets. I just noodle or work my way through my songbook. And, although I have no plans of ever performing, I prefer to practice as if it were a live performance (with mic & PA etc.) So, for sure I should be doing it in sets. Thanks for the good idea.

Doc. I wanted to play out by myself after retiring, but I needed a full band to do what I do, so I started to think in terms of backing tracks. All of my tunes are on a still working DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) a Windows computer using Sonar Producer Edition I built the thing from parts in 2003.

So I just muted out the vocals and lead guitar work, and exported the tunes (which I composed/produced myself) And I have 3-45 minute sets all done with only 3 or 4 cover tunes which I programmed in in my own way. I used a MIDI file to start the Hey Joe and Imagine processs, but I changed those significantly. I learned to manipulate MIDI files from back in the mid 80's when my recording gear was all analog and my sequencer was a MIDI only program called Performer versions 1 through 3.xx written by Mark Of The Unicorn, and I used a Mac Plus on through to a Mac II to command the tape decks and synths and samplers. (both of those computers still work, I just took them down from the shelf a few days back and tried to boot them, and to my surprise they still work).

Anyways, I love making music. So I do............

Sounds like a great setup, dbm. How does your SCX2 work out for live performances? I have a Vibro Champ XD - the 5 watt little brother before the Fuse model. It's the worlds best bedroom amp, but I was thinking of picking up an X2 for live. Bit more watts, bigger speaker etc.

For the last year or so, I've been transcribing my songs into Band in a Box. Quite an amazing tool, actually. Gives me some pretty good backing tracks. Even so, it's a far cry from playing with a band. And, I sure have to be on my game, cause those boys don't miss a beat.

This winter my goal is to polish the songs live, so I can get a live feel in the studio in the spring. I'm using a bizarre combination of a couple of old TEAC 4 Track reel to reels with DBX unit, a Tascam portastudio 8 track and a couple of DAI's into Reaper. Once I get the studio tracks recorded, I'll likely use them instead of BIB.

I started playing again a few years ago, after a 30 year hiatus to raise a family. Wanted to see if you can teach old dogs new tricks. Apparently you can. I'm a better player now than I was when I toured in the 70s. Even with crooked fingers. That or I'm so darn old and deaf that I can't tell how bad I am. LOL.

Take Care - keep playin!
PS: pretty sure I stayed at the Perlberg once.

I have not played the X2 our live yet, probably for any live performance I would use my Hot Rod Deluxe. It is a bunch higher quality in sound and actually a lot "smoother" with less pick attack. To accomplish the smoother and less pick attack I use a "Volume Box" in the HRD effects loop, and it has the same effect as turning your guitar down and the amp up but it works at any volume level.

I bought the X2 for a grab and go amp for jams and other things, like when I travel to Northern California to the relatives house, I want something small, lightweight, and self contained. It works for that.

But truth be told I am not totally happy with the clean side of the X2 amp, it is OK mind you, but it is to ice picky on the pick attack. It does have it's good points however the bass notes are the crispest of any amp I ever owned, probably due to the hemp cone Lil Buddy speaker.

For sure, I would use the HRD too. :D
Good to hear your thoughts on the X2. Thanks
