HI, New to this forum

I have an X2 head, that I was using through a Blackstar HT408, but have picked up a cheap little 110 cab with a Celestion Tube 10 in it. The speaker does not sound good with the various Channel 2 voices so was wondering if anyone here OR FENDER, can recommend a suitably voiced 10 inch ceramic speaker?

The options in UK for 10's are, ALL Celestions, WGS G10C and Veteran, Most Eminence Red and Blue Coats, Tayden True Brits and jensen Vintage, MODS and Jet falcons. Are any of these voiced towards the various tones available from the X2. I was leaning towards Eminence Ramrod, WGS 10C or Rajun Cajun, but would like some advice.

Grateful for any useful comments.

Thanks

north east al,

A page that that proved useful to me when researching a 10" replacement speaker for my SCX2:

http://fenderguru.com/how-to-select-speakers

I chose the Eminence Legend 1058 ($60 US) for budgetary reasons, its ability to gracefully handle the varied tones associated with the amp models and effects, as well as its adherence to the classic "Fender Chime". I have been pleased with the tone characteristics and value for the dollar, and it only gets better as it "breaks in". The page lists quite a number of other options in 10" speakers and offers brief descriptions of what one might expect for tone characteristics in each. Not sure how many of the speakers are available in the UK, though.
Cheers!

Thanks. Hadn't noticed the legend series. 1028k alnico comes in at the same cost as ceramics. Might consider that.

I went with the Tone Tubby Low Watt 12" hemp speakers in the new cabinet I built and as they are starting to break in I am really impressed with the tone. ( They also come in a 10" size ) They cut some of the shrillness off the amp and are taking fuzz and overdrive really well.

The clean tones are really remarkable, very round and chimey, my Rickenbacker loves them. I can get very convincing surf and country tones as well.

I will say they seem to like a lot of volume to get the best tone out of them, but that may be a function of them not being broken in yet.

Never seen tone tubby speakers here in UK. Lil buddy is the only hemp cone I have seen here. But thanks.

I put an Eminence 10" Lil Buddy in my combo. Took a while to break in, now I can say, I love the combo of the Lil Buddy/SCX2.

I use Ragin Cajun in my own cab, with SCX2 head. Great fun, very good sounding. Tried the head with Celestion 10 from Ibanez TSA5 combo, sounds poor, somehow, compared to RC. Fatter sound, with Eminence Delta 15".
I use the RC with different amps, from Orange Micro Terror to frontman 65 and sounds beautifull in all ocasions! You should try one...

I replaced the stock speaker with a Jensen electric lightning and am well impressed with the results...the speaker is very expensive here where I live as they all are unfortunately. Initially I was not overwhelmed but its getting there......

look at the Jensen range too, well worth the time of looking into it

good luck

The Ragin Cagun takes the X2 from a bedroom amp to a performing amp. Its sounds like a Celestion V30 and can handle boost pedals. The speaker and a boost pedal makes it sound like a 30 watt amp.

I've got a Lil Buddy in my Champion 110. I like it but it is smoother in the highs than typical Fender. Fat round bass.

I also have a Jensen MOD 10-70 I like. Good if you prefer a little tighter bass and thicker mids. Highs are a little chimier than the Lil Buddy.

I don't think the Tube 10 is all that bad. Having experimented with all these speakers I find it actually complements low watt tube amps better than my other speakers. It just makes them seem relaxed and articulate. Lacking in bass and sucks at high volume, but for nighttime noodling with the PicoValve or the Crate Palomino V8 I really like it.

ps I've been gassing for a Jensen Jet Falcon 10 lateley. I just want the magical green cone.
