Measuring the plate voltage of the X2, I get 395V. That means she should be biased at 24.8mV per tube. So measuring from R20 to ground, I should be reading close to 50mV for both tubes. I'm presently set for 45, or 22.5 per tube...a bit on the cool side per the plate voltage, but added headroom. Is there any reason I shouldn't run this amp this way? I am using NOS JAN 6V6GTAs and a 5751 for my preamp tube. I also have a Merc Mag output tranxfmr for a Princeton (FBFPO-S) I installed and a Weber 10F150, 50W / 8ohm speaker. She sounds great!
Any input regarding this set up appreciated!

Interesting, 80 views but not one reply. Hmmm? Am I being too technical here? Just kidding...

Well, I'm sticking with what's worked for me, biasing by plate voltage and a simple bias calculator. I'm running at 24mV / tube and she breaks up nice at about 6.5 with the JAN6V6GTAs.
Sounds mighty sweet w/o blowin' out the windows. Plus a NOS GE 5751 5***** in the preamp. I'm lovin' it. A Merc Mag Princeton op tranny and a Weber 10F150 50W and she's all tone!

Thanks, DB. I like your Ellington quote..."if it sounds good, it is good". Says it all.

Thanks. Did not know it was a Duke Ellington quote, my Hollywood producer friend said that to me many years ago, long before he hit the LA music/TV production scene. Now I know where it came from. He probably heard that at Berkelee School of Music, when he went to school there..... I got a bunch of little Berkelee gems from him, and from Emily Remler who also went there. She was one of my music teachers way back before she died.
