I am really pretty impressed with the X2 head as my home practice recording amp.
My other amps were all either too loud, or too noisy, and the X2 is right on the money.
Now, I have a few questions, guys:
I was always of the opinion that tube amps need to be connected to a speaker when turned on. Will the X2 head be happy with only the USB or line out connection plugged in?
On another note, will the fuse software allow me to double up on effects in a similar category? e.g. use a tremolo and a chorus in the same voicing?
OK, one more quicky while I'm here- I can get the X2 head to sound really great through the line out to my (Komplete Audio 6) interface, but when I pick the X2 itself (in Logic) as the designated audio input, it really sounds feeble- any body with any help on this?
BTW I had posted a question last week(?) about whether or not this head would match up well with a pair of Jensen C12N's from the late 60's- Let's just say that it does- The Jensen's have a loose bassey kind of sound that fill in the thin trebly voicings- especially when playing with the middle control that fuse gives us.
But it also sounds great when I pump it through the single 12" Fender speaker that resides in my HRD-When I want it, the added brightness sounds nice too.
In comparison, either speaker set up seems nicer than the 10" I tried out at the store in the combo amp. Just my opinion guys. They didn't have the right cabinet for the actual match to this head though, so I'm kind of in the dark about how that would sound-
Well thanks in advance for reading this-TD

Hi again- just wanted to reply to one part of my own question- I discovered what the USB gain knob does, and that solves the volume problem(duh). I'm guessing that it's ok to run the amp just with the USB without damage to the head, and I'm also guessing that I can't double up on similar types of effects- looks like one scoop of each and that's it!
If I'm wrong about any of this please let me know, thanks
TD

Nope it is not good to run a tube amp without a speaker load. bad idea......

You are correct sir!
Phone call to Fender confirmed this- do not use this head as a record alone type device- It still needs to be plugged into a speaker or an 8 ohm dummy load.
Seems like Fender ought to be making this point a little more obvious. The head works so well as a usb recording device that you might be fooled into thinking that it doesn't need to plug in anywhere else. It is still a tube amp, and still needs that 8 ohm load they tell me, or else you will be driving the unit too hard.
Thanks for the reply, and thanks for making me use my common sense.

+1

regardless of all the dsp stuff, the scx2 is still a tube amp (which is why we like it after all ;) and you'll burn up your amp without a load. the usb thing-a-ma-jig doesn't cut it.

No, Fuse/SCX2 won't let you use two of the same-category effects at once.

Many effects are available as stomp box on the front end and rack effects on the back end.
