I am going to be purchasing a SCX2 Head to go along with my combo. I love this amp. I haven't decided but I want to pair it with either a 2 x 10 or 2 x 12 cabinet that I can get on ebay for a good price. Question is speakers and ohms. With the X2 head.... if I use a
2 x 10 or 2 x 12 cabinet, what ohms do the speakers need to be? The cabinets come prewired... Actually it says it comes dual jack wired... what does that mean. I am a newby to this stuff.

thanks,
IowaCarver

The owner's manual says to plug into an 8 ohm minimum cab. Any proper commercially available cab should have the impedence info printed on the plate by the jack sockets.

I have the combo, too- in surf green, and love it!!! I played through it for a good long time, today. It seems to just love my strat- I couldn't get a bad sound out of it! For some reason, the volume knob kept mysteriously creeping up... This lil amp gets seriously loud! I can only imagine what you'll get hooking it up to a nice 2x12. You'll love it, and your neighbors will not.

A typical 2 speaker cabinet comes wired in parallel. Yes, custom wirings are available. The stock output transformer of the SCX2 recommends 8 ohms. I have this amp, BTW. So, your 2 speaker cab should have either, 2-16 ohm speakers wired in parallel for an 8 ohm cab, or 2-4 ohm speakers wired in series, for an 8 ohm cab. If buying Weber speakers ohms can be chosen in most cases. Many 12" speakers offer a 16 ohm option.

I hope that helped.

I really love my SCX2. I have a single 10" Eminence Red Fang alnico speaker in it.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I am thinking 2 x 12 on this set up since I already have the 10 inch combo. I am thinking the cannabis rex . Should I go with a pair of C Rex's or go with one Canabis Rex and one of something else ?

Good call on the C. Rex. One of the Red Coat types might be a nice combo. The Wizard is the preferred speaker of Billy Penn at 300guitars and it is the one he puts in his Pennalizer amps. Blending speakers is getting popular and it is what I would do with a two speaker cab. I think with the variety of speakers these days it actually is not just a trend but "good cooking". Just one spice is no longer necessary.

There are some rich sonic combos to be found. Keeping the dB sensitivity roughly equal is probably a good idea. Eminence has a lot of speakers around the century mark.
