So i recently got the x2 and ive been using it with a MIM strat. The clean voices sound pretty good but right when i go to any of the more distorted voices it just sounds horrible. I know a strat isnt the best for heavy music but it sounded alot better on my 15W line 6..so i looked up videos of people with the amp and as i expected it sounded way better when i heard them using the heavier voices...im not sure if its me, my guitar, my amp, or im doing something wrong?

have you tried fiddling around with them on Fuse? I've heard that sometimes the "hidden" features can come from the factory in weird positions. On some of mine, the midrange is in desperate need or reining in- it's set way too high. A lot of the amp models also have the bright switch engaged.

I, personally, prefer to use my own dirt pedals rather than the modelled "heavy" sounds on the amp. I have tried them out, though, with a MIA strat. They didn't sound that bad to me.

IMO. The voices of the X2 are just starting points. If one doesn't like the sound of the clean channel there is something for discussion there. If one does not like certain voices and is not using fuse to edit it, they are not using the equipment properly and the problem then lies with the user and not the amp.

Perhaps one of the amps with two basic settings, clean and driven, and simple tone controls would be more to your liking. It'll cost you more unless you go SS.

I am an SCX2 owner.

The other guys are right, you must use Fuse to tweak the models. The factory defaults were not well set up. Also, since SCX2 was my first factory-new tube amp and cab, I only recently learned that you have to break the gear in, especially the speaker. It took a few dozen hours of playing for my speaker to fully wake up. It continues to sound better each day after 6 weeks since purchase.

I am not a big fan of single coils for overdrive sounds myself, I find the Fender style single coil and noiseless pups great for clean sounds all by themselves, but for overdrives I need a boost pedal with EQ (I use a Boss Blues Driver set to almost clean with the out put turned up and the tone control all the way to it's bass setting) I also experimented with turning the guitar tone control almost all the way on it's bass setting. Both took that overblown treble out of the sound that made it sound unpleasant.

I also had to tweak the amp in Fuze to make it usable. In the clean channel I turned the Mids down (and I sure wish they would give us a presence control in Fuze also for the clean channel) In the SuperSonic Model I changed the cab to 4-12 G and turned the mids a bit and upped the second gain a slight amount. And on amp 15 I turned the presence all the way off, which helped as well. I also changed the speaker to an Eminence Lil Buddy hemp cone speaker which gives it a completely different flavor.

I am still breaking mine in, but so far I have found that it has changed my outlook on all my guitars. It is a massive improvement from playing thru SS or amp sims.

For driven sound I am using either an Epiphone Dot ( 335 clone ) or an Aria LP clone and they just sing out of this amp. I am waiting for my bro to send me back our real Gibson LP so I can play it thru here, that should be amazing.

Clean tones from a MIA Strat Plus with Lace Sensors are about as glassy as you can get, while the 60s clean channel really takes advantage of a Rickenbacker toaster pickup.

I figure I am at least 2-3 months away from breaking in the speaker, but I have noticed that after about 10 hours it is sounding richer already. I think the speaker material is starting to loosen up a little which is giving more harmonics to the sound.

I am moving my home "studio" down to the basement so I can start recording thru the amp, more to come on that as I get along.
