thought i had this problem tracked down the other day on another thread i posted. not to be...

just changed all 3 tubes to brand new Tung-sols but i'm still getting some unwanted and not normal sizzle in the midrange on any guitar i plug in. most noticeable when trying to play clean of course. i have gone through every possible mechanical source of vibration, and this sounds more like an electrical issue. amp would sound great otherwise. frustrating.

any help from Fender reps here?

Hi barncat,

It is really difficult to try to 'diagnose' a concern like this on a discussion forum. I would suggest that you take the amp to a Fender Service center or a qualified amp repair shop of your choice. Once you change out the tubes to non-stock, you will have voided the amp's warranty. But I would still suggest that you get the amp checked out. Thanks.

i assume there is no warranty as this was an eB*y purchase, from what turned out to be a disreputable seller. one is bound to get burned eventually on that site.

i don't really feel like throwing good money after bad so i'm trying to sort it out myself. it has to be:

A) a bad speaker (aftermarket rajin' cajun with no obvious defects)

B) re-bias needed, though i doubt that would cause this unwanted distortion by itself

C) some partially failed electrical component(s)

so until i can try a known good speaker for comparison i think (C) above the most likely culprit...

Hi barncat,

I'm sorry to hear that you ran into a bad Ebay seller. It is unusual in my experience. But, unfortunately it does happen. I wish I could offer you some advice via your verbal description. But I just can't advise specifically.

From what you are stating, you may want to try to confirm that the speaker is good. Secondly, you may also want to make sure that the tubes are stock type and value. Again, I would suggest that you get the unit to an amp tech that has experience with Fender amps and if possible is a Fender Authorized Service Center. Once a qualified tech gets the amp in to his or her hands, they should be able to sort out what is going on.

In the mean time, please let us know if we can assist further.
