I finally got the Fender Super Champ X2 up and installed under my computer desk. I also hooked my pedal board in front of it with an A/B switcher and took my GNX2 outta the shed (it still works surprisingly) and hooked that all up to the A/B switcher for the harmonies which I do on one song. The Valve Jr and EVM12L are now banned from the living room & have gone back to the shed. The X2 with the super sonic patch equals the tube distortion stomps for nice smooth overdrive, I can now still use the BD2 for the boost and the tonal difference I need for the Agile without messing with the tone control on the amp.

I am liking that X2, one thing that helped it was getting it up off of the floor. I have a laminate floor I installed 5 or so years back and it reflects sound in a way I do not like. I am confident I can take that out for most jams etc, and have enough oomph to get the sound across to be capable with anything that is in the acoustic volume of a set of drums.

For the first time since I got my X2 the house was all mine for a few hours today. Got to find out what this baby really sounds like a 10, 9, 8 and so on. I let it power my 4x8 cab for most of the time. I love the sound of that combo. Lots of bottom without being bass heavy. I only played through the clean channel. Just sonic sweetness. When I went back to the stock speaker ( I have a combo) it was pleasing to see that there was still a good Fender sound being made. I played for much of the time witht he middle on six, because I forgot to use fuse. The middle on 2 might be better, so I saved it there and will play more. Now, the same company that makes my 4x8 just came out with a 4x6. Storage is the real issue. My bet is it would sound great and the cab weighs 36.lbs instead of 60. Storage will remain an issue.

So ends my X2 combo report.
A little gear porn now.

Good looking stuff there Wiz, that 4 by speaker cab looks too heavy for my 70 year old bones however. :D

I may be looking for a 10" speaker for mine in a few months. I am not into anything heavy, that is why I bought this little amp. I have decided on the Eminence Patriot Lil Buddy according to it's curve which is essentially flat over the whole range of its tonal capability above 80Hz, with a very small peak at about 2K on over to about 3.5K which is also flat essentially. Then I think I can turn the treble knob up a bit. Although as I play it, the on board speaker is breaking in little by little and the harshness of the highs are being mitigated by simple use. The cone is still too crisp, another few months of use at the volumes I play at these days, will tell the tale.

If I need more than the stock speaker can handle, I could also tote one of my EVM12L's in an open back cab (which are heavier than the combo amp) if I needed the extra oomph, it is far more efficient than most speakers and puts another 10%-20% in added volume out there on the same settings as the stock speaker.

Anyways, the more I play this thing the more I like it. And after a few days of playing, it has become one of my all time favorite amps. (Although it ain't even close to my old Fender 30 Combo in my heart) (Rivera Era I think) I bought that way back in the mid 70's, it was the first channel switching amp I ever got from Fender, and I have had every single model almost, both black face and silver face (Except the super reverb) Anyways that Fender 30 was point to point wired, all tube, had foot controlled channel switching, on board Reverb. I gave it to my kiddo after I bought my first Boogie amp (of 4 over time) I don't miss any of the Boogies but I sure do miss that Fender 30. I have no idea what ever happened to it however. Poof and it is gone except in my memory.....

$350 well spent I think. After the 30 day return the box goes to recycle. (I live 30 miles from the Scottsdale Fender place so I think I can ship over there via my Rav4) (if it ever needs fixin).

Let me file this under an X2 report. I watched a video today on the 18 watt Avatar amp.https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=3LwXH4T1glw&NR=1
It was a head going through a cab that looked to have 2x12. It was two speakers, at least, for sure. They plugged in both channels simultaneously, one at a time, volume at 2 at 6, at 10 etc. They moved the mid, treble and bass around. They were looking for a rock tone and got a very nice one. Basically the same one whatever they did, with nuanced differences. Even dimes out, a margarita maker would have challenged it for decibel presence. That is how it sounded to me. A very nice, not loud, one trick pony. Now, I heard some bluesy and jazzy vids too and it can do that as well. Rock crunch wise, it was like having one of the voice setting on the SCX2 with tonal variation. Except, Fender tone controls would seem to have more spread and variation with sound output. If an X2 were going into a 2x12 cab dimed out this amp would have been lost.

A hand wired boutique amp getting punked by the X2.

I am a bass player primarily so my take on things may be skewed, but I am still glowing about my X2 purchase. Surf Green too. :D

BTW. My clean channel came with the Mid a 6. I liked that. I am trying it at 2 for awhile. The scooped middle made the clean a little more ethereal.

Probably should have made this its' own thread. Maybe Fender would send me some picks or, better, a strap. :D

I have a Lil Buddy in a Champion 110 amp. I love the speaker. It has a great smooth full tone.

That said it really did change the sound of the amp in a dramatic way, and I have had some trouble getting it to sound good with my Zoom G3X with the amp models, so I'd use it cautiously in a Super Champ X2. If you don't mind something a little different I'd say go for it but if you're looking for the same only better I'd go Ragin Cajun or Copperhead. My main guitar is very trebly and it loves the Lil Buddy. YMMV.

Congrats on the new amp. Might just be the ticket for me. Is there a Jensen that would improve the tone for blues and classic rock????

I pulled the trigger on the Lil Buddy yesterday and it has shipped. I am pretty sure that it will satisfy my tonal preference, I don't like all those upper highs in the presence range and from the looks of the curve on the speakers PDF it does just what I need. On every amp I own and every modeler I own I turn the presence knob all the way off, but there is none on the Clean and none on the Super Sonic model. So I am hoping to artificially get that done with the Lil Buddy

I used my line out from the SCX2 into my Lexicon Alpha and then my line in of my Creative X-Fi audio cards. Wow. I was stunned by the clarity and tone. I just wanted to get an idea down and ran it into audacity. My MP Jaguar sounded like a rich acoustic guitar. Very happy to discover this.

Cool, I never thought of recording my X2 direct, now I will have to try it if I come up with some musical ideas. I have not recorded in several years, maybe it is time to do that again. My DAW is lonely......... :D

So how is the Lil' Buddy? Did you get a chance to try it out yet?

The Lil Buddy gave the amp a more jazzy tone. So far so good. I would not say it was worth the extra bux it cost me but it did improve the harshness of the highs about 75% of the way. Wish it could have done that a little better. I am mitigating them with ear plugs because the highs actually hurt my ears a bit. Not my favorite amp because of that. I may sell it to one of my students if she can come up with the bux. She likes it a bunch as is.

I actually like my Valve Jr head (99 buck wonder) into my EVM12 L 1-12 cabinet a little better with stomps in front, that don't hurt the ears like the SCX2 does. (And I have the X2 turned a down a bunch too).

I have suggested a presence control for the clean channel in the Fuze software over in the feedback thread on the Fuze software board. That would help a big bunch.

I'm sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, the Lil' Buddy does mellow a bit once you get a few dozen hours on it. I'd also see about turning down that mid control. I have sensitive ears too and mids on 10 do not agree with me.

I am trying the settings on Fuze, and hoping to have a presence control added to the Fuze Software for the clean channel.

I turned the clean channel mids down to 5, and that helped a bit. And turned the Mids down on the Super Sonic Model and added to the second drive a few degrees.

I also turned down the amp volume and backing tracks volume quite a bit. We shall see what happens after a few weeks of daily practice, still I am using ear plugs to mitigate the highs a bit. And we shall see what my student wants to do on Saturday, she loves my Gibson SG and the X2 amp, and she can have them both for a grand. I also bought the foot switch and an amp cover as well for the X2, The SG is the very best guitar for neck trueness I have ever owned. Unlike older SG's it stays in tune in a rock solid manner. I simply do not like shorter scale guitars and would like to divest myself of the Gibson, I just sold my 80's Les Paul Custom too. I have had that Les Paul since the late 80'ds and never liked it all that much.
