The Little Buddy looks like it may do the trick as it has very little peak at 2K, I absolutely don't like the shrill highs, and the little buddy is a hemp cone which takes away that high Jangle shrillness that so many other Fender players seem to like, (like I once did as well) Plus the Little buddy (according to the frequency response graph) looks like it will handle the bass frequencies very well. We shall see if it is necessary.

From what I have heard, no hemp speaker will ever be called shrill or jangely. They have a tone that is different than other cones. I think it is great that there are so many speaker choices out there. Like colors, there are very subtle nuances that make something personal and just right.

One of the cooler speaker sounds I have heard is using dual speaker cabs configured with two different kinds of speakers. Like a darker stiffer one, with a chimey very responsive overtoney one. I've heard a few sound like two guitarists were playing. Fookin' brilliant to my ears.

I have the SCX2. The Red Fang is first choice over the Ragin Cagin but I got 3 identical demo mp3's and listened to them side by side, first one passage and then the other. The RF is just ear candy for me, but for the price, the RC really does a good rough impersonation. I am content with the stock speaker for now. Given the combo was only 50 dollars more than the head, I am happy with the sound. Fender does a pretty good job, IMO.

Thanks, I am hoping I can tweak the thing and leave it as is, If I need something louder than the 10" can handle, I can always break out my Hot Rod Deluxe. I bought the SCX2 for a grab and go amp that does not break my 70 year old back carrying up steps etc. I have a roller case for the HRD but it don't roll up into the back of my Rav 4. I was a bricklayer by trade and I do go to the gym every week 3x and lift weights etc, so I am in decent shape so the 50 lbs the HRD weighs is not a big problem, but 24 lbs is a lot less and that is the purpose of the SCX2. Plus I need a stomp for the HRD for overdrives at lower volumes and I don't want anything more than the channel switcher and guitar wire which can stow in the bottom of the amp, easy transport is my purpose. I have high hopes for that SCX2.

I honestly believe you will be very pleasantly delighted. I hope my assessment proves correct for your sake.

No problem Wiz. if I don't like it, back it goes, the only reason I might not like it, that I can see, is a problem with the amp, in which case they send me a free return shipping label. Even if I just don't like it, is cheaper for me to send it back, than take a trip to Guitar Center, spend an hour getting there and back, and wasting another hour in an environment where I can't actually assess the thing fully with the computer and editing software.

I think it will work out.

So far so good, I was worried about it being far too bright to tweak, not the case. Quite the opposite, nice, round, and fat and I have not even begun to tweak. Amazing tone for an amp this size. Quite impressed so far. Tomorrow, I put the Fuze software on the computer, and tweak away....... No speaker or tube change needed, at least not yet.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I think the stock tubes and speaker are very good. I do not doubt that the 18 carat gold of stock could be turned to 24 carat. Buying the amp was cash outlay enough for me. When that itch develops again, I know where to start.

I have not had time to A/B it with my EVM12L which is broken in, but I do think the stock speaker is a little shrill, however it needs to be broken in a bit before I decide, probably several months of daily use to do that at lower volumes.

Every time I plug in, someone calls me or someone wants my attention. It is a good thing I am 70 years old and have learned a good bit of patience over the years.

I have not had time to put on the software and tweak it yet, and I am hoping for better things then what I have from it now, but so far it is a keeper, and if I can't improve on it much, it is still plenty good enough.

Nice little bit of kit, as my British musician friends say.

I am thinking Eminence Lil Buddy. But every day the on board stock speaker sounds better to me. I ain't messing with it for a few months.

The speaker I am looking at is the WGS G10C. It is their version of the Ragin Cajun. Either one will cost me the same with shipping. To the dollar. The WGS seems to make the RC sound a little less ragin'. Both companies are in Kentucky. WGS has employed a lot of talent that needs it. Eminence is doing very well.

In the meantime, my stock speaker is fine for me. It is other people who have told me a I need a new speaker. Right now, I need that money for food. LOL

Ain't that the truth! The speaker has been sounding fine to me. I have the head and cab version so my speaker is a celestion 70/80. While it may not be as good as many other speakers it has a very neutral coloring aspect to the tone which prolly helps with the modeling. Like putting in a greenback would prolly help the British models but not so much the fenders. Tech 21 puts 70/80s in their PE 60s and they market those for transparent sound reproduction and IMO do a really good job. But as always the proof is in the pudding so if anybody swaps speakers out I'd like to hear about the results. Maybe even a recording or vid that shows a direct AB comparison...
Love these discussions.
Cheers!

It is generalizing to say so, but many have their favorite tone positions, IMO. So they set it and it is too bassy or trebley etc. They drop in the 'right' speaker and the tone changes to their liking. I find that turning the tone knobs helps me find what I like.

I'd be lying to say I wouldn't like to drop a new speaker in. I am sure there would be a difference, perhaps even night and day. Of all the speakers I heard, I like the Eminence Red Fang. Only 239.00 on Amazon and 10 dollars more everywhere else. I definitely heard some upper end harmonics, where the tone angels lend their voices and add 'free' notes to the sound.

The WGS G10C is my settle for speaker. It will have to wait for me to get back to work.

I just wish they could put a nice 20 band Graphic EQ on the finals on the way out of the pre to power amp.

One big time producer was once asked; "If you only had one effect to use, what would it be? And his quick answer was EQ".

And from recording over these past 25 years, I can attest to the value of a nice cut and boost Graphic EQ. I use that on every snare and kick track, and everything goes through a graphic in one subgroup before it hits the outs on my DAW. I was hoping for something more than a middle control in Fuze on the clean channel. I would have liked a presence control at the very least as well. Anyways I did not get fancy with the Fuze as of yet, if I ever do. It has it's value but not very comprehensive in tone control on the clean.

Having a pedal switchable clean/overdrive, without external stomps, and on board reverb is essential for me, and this amp does that very well. But it could do it better just a tad, with a nice software graphic between the pre and power amp.

I am going to post this review in a thread or two.

I just put an Eminence Red Fang 10" speaker in my SCX2 today. Wow! The transformation is astounding and I still have the stock tubes. The tonal spectrum and 102 dB sensitivity of this speaker have made it a 12" amp. I rolled through the voices of channel two, but with the exception of the 65 Deluxe, they were all nothing compared to the clean channel with this speaker. With the alnico speaker even the Vox voices sound like my clean channel. Right now, I feel like I got the equivalent of a Princeton+/Deluxe- amp for the price of the SCX2, plus the speaker. My cool cat tremelo pedal made my telecaster middle position sound like George Harrison on "I Need You". With a house full of people, cranking it up has not happened yet, but even at low volumes the punchy, clean bass notes and shimmering chimey highs are apparent. The mid is balanced and does not sound scooped.

I heard the Celestion alnicos and they lacked good bottom end for my ear. Eminence Red Fang from Kentucky is an amazing speaker.

If you are intrigued contact Dave at Avatar speakers for the best price.
