Hey Folks -

I am really impressed with the Super Champ series and would like to know from those who have owned both the Xd and X2 your thoughts regarding each amps pro's and con's. I can't make up my mind which to get; a used XD or a new X2. I really like that the SC sounds great using pedals on channel 1.

I play:
85% Blues ( more of the Texas blues style -SRV)
15% rock, some metal (Metallica type tones)

I'm more looking for that blues, gritty sound. I know the X2 comes with FUSE, but what are the other differences (tone, etc.)
Thanks very much for your input/advice!!

For blues stuff, either amp is amazing. I'd still choose the X2 simply because of the ability to tweak tones and get exactly what you want. Plus you can get rid of some of the voices that you are not too excited about and just keep a couple of heavier tones for your metal stuff and then make 14 voices to cover the entire spectrum of blues.

I personally think that the clean and tweed tones on the XD might be a bit better out of the box, but after spending a few minutes on FUSE I tweaked my X2 to sound better than my XD ever sounded. Additionally, I was never happy with any of the high gain tones on the XD, none of them suited me, but the gain tones on the X2 were far better out of the box, not to mention that I customized them using Fuse and they are killer now.

I have the Stack and not the 10 inch combo and the hard rock/metal stuff sounds great with a couple of tweaks.

I hope that helps. I was in love with my XD, but a couple of days with the X2 caused me to sell my XD and my Blues Jr. III.

Hi
If you like twiddling and fine-tuning via the computer then it's the X2 as the XD doesn't have this facilty. If not and you can get the XD for a good price, then the XD would be OK. However if funds do permit go for the X2. I have both amps but the X2 is now my number 1.

Out of the box, the X2 has a a thinner sound but if you secure the speaker board to the cabinet, it takes the lead over the XD.

I bought the X2 combo and cabinet as well as the XD. I ended up just keeping the SCX2 and returning the SCXD because once I fixed the speaker panel issue, the availability of the tap button for the effects kept me coming back to just the SCX2 combo every time.

If you combine the rebate with a store discount, there isn't much difference in price between the two. Get both and take back the one that doesn't get played.

XD was discontinued because the Chinese supplier stopped making them. When Fender had to find a new factory they made what they thought were improvements. I agree with their decisions. I would opt for the revamp. I have bought a SCX2.

Hi rattlesnake,

I would suggest the Fender SuperChamp X2 based on the added flexibility you have with the Fender FUSE software and full programming of all Voice and FX settings. Please let us know if we can assist in either case.

Cheers,

Hey Rattlesnake, how about that snappy response time for your question? Amazing what the internet can do.
