howdy folks. Here is a vid of my band playing a semi indoor barn/garage thing at a punk show in oakland. I used my SCX2 with a tech 21 power engine 60. i have the SCX2 settings as follows. Supersonic model. gain 7 volume 9 treble 4 bass 5. its hard to get a great idea of the audio from some dudes video camera but it was pretty screamin. I was getting about half my sound from the PE60 and half from the SCX2. all the other bands used half stax. I got a lot of comments about the guitar sounding good. this was a pretty loud show and i felt the SCX2 really excelled being driven hard.I do some guitar wankin in the last minute of the vid.

cheers

Adding some things to this post. I forgot to mention that I was using an analogman ds1 in front of the supersonic channel. I won't be using it next though. I went into fuze and created a supersonic with od in front in slot 14. I did side by side sound comparisons until I had it just about spot on. Truth be told I like the superchamps od better. I love the analogman pedal it's been a part of my setup for a while now but the onboard od just seemed to blend a little better to my ears.
Cheers

Hi andygutmonkey,

Thanks for posting that link. It looks like it was a fun gig. And I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your amp. I am a fan of these amps myself. Please let us know if we can assist in any way.

Cheers,

right on. Yea it was a blast. back yard setup. I know it prolly wasnt the kind of tones most people would be interested in checking out but you know. Most of the opinions out there write it off as not a gigging amp and i wanted to show that it can get pretty loud. I used a supplemental power amp with it but thats all part of the usefullness. you can jack that line out into any PA or into the effects return of ANY amp and now you have more sound.a 100watt fender frontman amp for example... It is pretty loud by itself though. you just gotta turn it up to 9 or so. In my opinion thats kind of the whole point of having the lower wattage tube amp is so you can push it really hard. It really sings when its driving. all of the amp models sound more authentic when start pushing the air and driving those power tubes. I play alot of different kinds of stuff so hopefully i will produce something more pleasing to the tone hounds out there sometime. but untill then...ROCK!!!

I gig with my Mustang Floor but only because our sound guy doesn't want open mic's.

Two mic'd SC's and an AB switch would work out fine for most folks. I would probably only use one because I don't switch sounds mid song.

Cool vid. I bet the stereo sound is awesome when your standing in front of that rig! I've been thinking about maybe getting a mustang floor sometime to do sort of like way your doing. That's a cool looking mini stack. You'd have to decide which one gets te extension cab. I was already thinking if I had the dough 2 scx2 s ran in stereo would sound SICK.

Thanks!

I have hooked up two amps to one Ernie Ball volume pedal and was able to adjust the mix on the fly. One to the tuner and one to the out. It is amazing, but what I was trying to do this time was to put the delays on top of each other so I daisy chained them.

A mustang floor turns one SC into a perfect gigging amp if you mic it.

I haven't had a chance to really check out any of the mustang stuff yet. Seems like it would be an ideal complement since the SCX2 is used the same sound engine as a mustang but with tube power. So the mustang floor ran into champ would also get the tube power... I think theyre loud enough for most the things I do but when I need the extra volume the tech 21 power engine 60 does the trick real well.

I got the Mustang Floor to use as a preamp on stage for my '69 P-Base because it had XLR outs and was more robust than the rig I was using. I liked the fender amp modeling on the iRIG so I gave it a shot. The Mustang Floor also kept me from having to use a Digitech petal board that I just couldn’t ever enjoy playing.

The Mustang Floor works great with the SC and gives you full control of all of the settings without having to hook up to a computer. It also lets you put another layer of effects on top of the awesome built in effects of the SC.

Speaking of the SC effects, I have read that the early 60's Bandmaster had the vibrato circuitry that was the best ever created and since the bandmaster was my first amp, it is what I judge all vibrato by. The SC vibrato circuit comes as close to the Bandmaster as I have heard. Even the new RI amps with tube vibrato have something that leaves me wishing for the old bandmaster. That being said, the knobs on my old bandmaster have dead spots and it is hard to get the right speed without it cutting out.

Hi Guys, I'm a bit of a newbie with this but is there a cable that would splt the speaker out on the SC combo to allow you to use the combo and cabinet together i know ohms are probabaly a concern to...i have an original SCXD and I bought the SC112 cab..the cab really fills out the sound but to be able to run the 2 speakers simultaniously would be awesome....any help is appreciated..

Howdy folks. Just wanted to chime in and report that I gigged again with the SCX2 head and cab. This was at the gilman in berkley. They miked the amps and played through the house speakers. Tone was fab and I was the only guitar guy there without a huge stack. I don't think we got any video but I'll try to post a pic that shows the SCX2 up on the stage! Yeehaa!

I think that there should be a way to control the Super Champ X2 with the Mustang Floor.

I haven't tried it but in my mind there stands the "possibility" that you could hook up a MIDI out from the Mustang Floor to the USB in of the Super Champ and control the SCX2.

The back of the Mustang book has all of the MIDI codes for all of the settings. Since they are essentially the same under the hood except for the tube amp portions, doesn't it seem reasonable that they would understand the same MIDI codes?

I'm thinking that you might be able to connect them directly with USB but the data wires may have to be switched and it may have to have 5 volts added externally.

If a way to control the SCX2 at the level of control that the Floor offers, it would be a game changer. Imagine a tube amp that you can go as far as changing the bias and tube matching level with a single stomp switch.

Played 1 gig with my SCX2 with a Fender Emeince 12 mounted all in a line 6 112 cab.. It did OK volume wise. we also had the line out into the main mix. We were playing in a medium size nightclub for a funraiser. It was a perfect venue to test gig my SCX2. Tone wise sound awesome. I have since upgraded the speaker to a Celestian Lead 80 12 and amp sounds better and louder but heaver.
