Is it possible to damage my speaker by using a multi effect pedal? I have a G5n, and on some patches the volume from the speaker using the pedal on the amp clean channel is louder than if I dimed the volume of the amp itself.

I don't want to damage my amp, and I just got it, so im a little paranoid. Thoughts?

I just have a VCXD and I live in an apartment and haven't had a chance to dime it yet.

But the amp's various voicings have drastic volume differences. The #4 voice is the same as the clean channel on the SCX2 and it's the quietest voice.

Does the clean channel stay clean when dimed? Just get a little dirty when dimed?

If the clean channel doesn't get very distorted when dimed, then it's designed to never push the output tubes to full volume.

Try comparing your pedal to the louder voices. Marshall Modern or Metal. I expect that they're significantly louder when dimed than the clean channel is, and probably just as loud as your pedal can drive the amp.

Regardless, Celestion's G10 Vintage is a 60 watt speaker, and Celestion rates their speakers very conservatively.

A pair of 6V6's will never put out anywhere near 60 watts. When pushed to their limits (massive power tube distortion) they might approach 35 watts. So no concerns there.
-----------------------
One possible concern about your pedal is if it has an "octave down" feature. That generates frequencies in the bass guitar range, and it's possible that the speaker can't handle those at high volume.

Volume increase or decrease from an inline pedal is normal. Chances are your pedal is increasing the gain on the signal going to your amp, such as applying a boost, overdrive, or distortion effect.

Fender makes great amps, designed to be used, so crank it up and Rock out! Don't be paranoid of hurting it, just enjoy it. { ;< ))

Thanks, John.

Sorry to reply after so long, but as you may have noticed, this forum isn't nearly as active as it used to be since Fender seems to have pretty much abandon-wared Fuse. SCX2 is a great amp, but I struggle sometimes with the idea of keeping it since they still sell them, yet have (seemingly) no intention of ever updating the firmware. What happens when they someday decide to dump Fuse altogether? Sure, Ill still have it downloaded, but it just bothers me that they still actively sell the amp new yet its main feature set is governed by software that hasn't been updated for years. I get that they have the Mustang GT100, but I guess in my mind they should either continue to develop for the SCX2 as well, or update it physically to match the modeling capability for the GT100 so there is a tube and not tube version. Hell, Id pay for it to have a new one just for that. I love it as a tube amp but with a 5 yr warranty and no development on it for years, how long is that warranty 'really' good for?

You're welcome, Alathea.
Have you emailed your concerns and suggestions to Fender
Let me shed some light on your concerns.

1. As you said, it's a great amp. So, enjoy it! Make music. Be happy.
2. I'm thankful for Fender for trying to stick to Leo's original thoughts that these are tools to make available to as many people as possible.
Drop a Strat or a Tele, pick 'em up and keep on rockin'.
Drop a Les Paul, crackle, crackle, cry.
Off to the repair shop you go and how you finish the gig, I don't know.
3. Fender's sacrifices to accomplish #2.
a. I was shocked to learn that Fender's CEO is one of the lower paid in the industry. I think he loves music, Fender, and Leo's dream. He's helping all of us and not being greedy doing it. Thank you, Sir!
b. Fender's margins are shockingly low. They run on a very tight budget. But the Fender Fuse is up and available. You and your amp are just fine for now.
4. They make products in Mexico and from day-to-day they have no idea how the Trump administration might upset part of their supply chain. It has to be unnerving.
5. With tax, what did the amp cost you? $410? With a 5-year warranty. So, $410/5 = $82 a year

Are you getting $82 of enjoyment from your amp each year? Then rock on', baby!! Smile. Be Happy! Thank you, Fender!!

I have gigged with my SCX2 and, WOW, when I hit the Big Muff Pi Triangle footswitch it was through the roof LOUD!! The drummer yelled at me to turn it down. Made me realize I forgot to turn on the Soul Food pedal, too. Which only made it louder. Loud as ****. LMAO And, yes, still with the stock Fender Special Design speaker.

Which Celestion G10 do you have? Did you buy your amp from Sweetwater?
I'm guessing you have a G10 Greenback, which is a 30 watt rated speaker.

Celestion has a bunch of models called G10. I was considering getting a G10 Gold.
I really wish they had a G10 Blue. I love the Celestion Blue Alnico speakers in the old Vox AC30s.
