I picked the JJ's because they were among the lowest cost. Then I read that they (supposedly) put up with more abuse and sound better than a lot of the more expensive 6V6 tubes.

I've read similar reports on how much higher voltage JJ 6V6s can withstand compared to other brands. I've had great experiences with JJ EL84s and 12AX7s, so I've no doubt you'll be real happy with them. I've replaced Sovteks with JJs and the difference in sound was dramatic. The Sovteks sounded so harsh and brittle, I couldn't even use the lead channel until I did a complete retube with JJs.

I notice that Fender seems to prefer Chinese 6V6s for their stock Groove Tubes in Blackface type amps. I've read, though can't confirm, the Chinese 6V6s sound the closest to Vintage Fender blackface sound. That is, closer than Russian or Slovakian tubes. It's funny the wide berth of opinions on Chinese tubes, yet Fender and Vox both use them for OEM tubes in new stock amps. For me, the jury is still out on Chinese tubes.

I've read that Fender uses different tube manufacturers at various times. Having worked in the electronics industry for many years, I'm sure the ability of a tube company to deliver tubes when Fender needs them to meet production schedules plays into it as well. Performance, reliability, availability and cost - they all impact which tubes will be in any given amp.
