Hi folks!

Had a terrible experience during a gig this weekend. My SC X2 went crazy with all kinds of buzzing, squeaks, loud noises, etc.... Anyway, I finished playing plugged in directly to the PA...
Back home I had a chance to investigate this further, here my observations:

1) reset (press and hold Tap) doesn't change anything

2) with all knobs set to minimum I still have very loud guitar sound as I would have all knobs set to max

3) the level of each knob is approximately constant when I try to turn in, except at 7, level drops to 0. This holds for every knob (volume, bass, treble,...)

4) When I turn FX knob back and forth from 1 to 10, at approx. 8, the amp switches from clean to distorded channel

Sound more like an electronic problem than tube (amp is quite new, 1 year, not played very often). Anyone had similar issue?

A little update. Connected the amp to Fender Fuse, where I can see the actual settings. Everything is at 10 no matter where the physical setting is pointing to, except in the small neighborhood of 7, where it drops to 1. Now I'm almost sure it's electronic/software problem. Firmware update didn't help....I'm shipping it to a checkup tomorrow morning...

Wow, that sucks. I've never heard of an issue like that. Definitely sounds like a problem in the digital portion, but if it connected to Fuse, the sound processor may be ok. Thankfully the warranty should cover it - either a repair or a new amp. Keep us updated.

Hey folks!

Amp arrived today. PCB (Printed Circuit Board) + DSP (Digital Signal Processor) replaced. Sounds OK now.

Was it a mistake to buy an amp with so much electronics (for a tube amp)? Having a little side thoughts about not buying an old school plain tube amp....

J.

I wouldn't get overly concerned about the amount of electronics in the amp. The Mustang amps have just as much, and they're reliability is very good. If it gives some comfort, get a surge protector, like for a computer, and always plug in the amp through that. I've heard of very few issue with the Super Champ. You'll find some people that have had problems, but not many.
