I am fairly new to downloading presets. Here's my question- When you download a preset, does it matter where the amp is set, (orange, red, green, etc,)?

Yes, if you like the current preset! When you import a fuse amp preset, it will import to the current #'d preset and over write everything that is in the current preset. So you want to make sure you have selected a preset you DON'T want or need. (no worries there, as there are plenty of sh**ty presets from the Factory Initial setup)

I usually set one #'d preset as the import target. Then I save that new preset to another #'d preset slot.

Backup your amp with FUSE before you do anything. Then if you get in a bind, restore and you're back. Of course, you always have factory reset which brings you back to Square 1

I bought a Mustang I amp the other day and have been reading and learning about it. One question I had was how to create a backup of the presets using the FUSE software then restore only one preset. I called Fender and was told that isn't possible. So, what's the deal with the downloadable presets. From what I've seen so far it seems like I can download one preset and put it on a preset location on my amp. Is that how it is? If so, how do I upload a preset I created? And, if I can do that can I restore only that one preset that I liked but screwed up? Basically, if I can upload a preset for someone else to get, can't I upload it as a backup for myself? Where do I find out exactly how to use the "downloading presets" ability? Thanks.

Fender is correct, the backup utility is a full backup, and the restore is a full restore.

To find the amp settings that you have made will be (if using windows) in the Fender folder in My Documents

the path is C:....\My Ducoments\Fender\FUSE\Presets and in there you will find your custom presets, or the presets that you have imported from the FUSE web site.

there is also C:\....\My Docuuments\Fender\FUSE\AmpData where all 100 presets reside.

I looked in these two locations. I don't have anything in the "presets" folder. In the "ampdata" folder I have 48 files.

I also found the backups I've created. Under each backup is a list of the presets and I recognize the names I gave them.

So how do I use this information? I assume the backup folder is where the backups reside (and not in the amp). If I delete the backups from this folder do I loose them? Also, can I copy the backup folder to another computer into the backups folder that has FUSE installed so I could retrieve the backups from that pc? Granted I have no plans to use or need most of these features in the immediate future but I like knowing what I can do if I need it. For example, if my son installs FUSE on his pc at his home could I copy one of my backups (or all) then go to his house and copy them to the backup folder in the backup folder on his pc then restore them to his amp if he has a Mustang?

The area I'm still completely in the dark is uploading and downloading presets from others. I haven't even looked into that myself though.

The issue of restoring only one preset is another area I'm lost. If this can't be done using the uploading and downloading of presets I'll need to use the Fender rep's suggestion. He said using FUSE, if I plan on changing a preset that I don't want to loose I should just do a complete backup first. If I change it and don't want the changes I can just do a complete restore. All the presets will be restored but if they are the same (except the one I changed) they'll be overwritten by a duplicate copy. But I'll have my original one back that I changed. But, to avoid that I have copied a preset I like but want to tweak a little to another preset location and edit that one. If I like the changes I'll then copy it to a location that I want to keep it in.

I don't really need many presets. Three of four is plenty for me right now. In the RED section I have the # configured to play completely clean. The F preset I have some reverb and the A preset I have distortion. These I configured only using the amp. After using FUSE I found myself feeling very limited having to use the amp that was already assigned to each preset. But those three configurations are good enough for me right now. Also, I can always up the reverb a little if I want or make any changes for a particular song or whatever. As long as I don't save it I'll still have it by changing the preset and then back again.

The AMBER bank is great in that I can't change any of those presets with the amp alone. So for now I'm keeping anything I REALLY like in that bank. To completely guarantee I don't loose them I just disconnect my amp from the pc or don't have FUSE running at all. I'm sure everyone has their own strategy regarding this. What I'm doing now is using the RED bank for amp editing only. The AMBER bank is used for presets I really like and don't want accidentally changed. The GREEN bank I'm using as a copy of AMBER. If I make any changed on the GREEN presets I can either save them there, copy them to the AMBER bank or delete them. I'm sure there are lots of options on managing the presets but truth be told I could restore all the default factory presets and not loose much. I could always reconfigure what I've done so far. It looks like there are some settings I can make by accessing features that aren't as obvious as others. The advanced amp section or the pedal effects can be altered within each one of them, etc.

Another truth I see is since I don't really need a lot of presets I should just use a few 3 or 4 I like and focus on playing. But when I find I have the ability to do something like this I want to learn how to use it. I'm still amazed at what can be done with a Mustang I. I'm sure the other models are full of even more features.

Using any of the Mustang amps is it possible to print out a list of presets along with each sub-section of them? I mean what every knob is set to or what every pedal configured is set to? That might help in some situations. The name I give a preset is a short description of what I configured it for. One might be "full hall reverb" or "overdrive". But it won't show all the individual configurations. Maybe I would be better off with an amp without these features. Then I'd focus more on playing the guitar. When I bought this amp all I went to the store to buy was a small amp with a reverf knob or something like that. I didn't know I was going to get an amp along with a huge selection of effect pedals. :) I'm not complaining though. This is a great amp. It has so many features I really don't need but enjoy having I won't need another amp unless I just need one that is louder.

which mustang do you have?

I think the # of presets varies depending on the amp.

have you already used FUSE to create any of your own presets and given them your own names?

I have a Mustang I. 24 presets total. I have created my own presets. In the name field I name it something I will recognize for the sound. I name them Reverb small room or Chorus, Deep and things like that.

I just noticed something. Above is the first post. I don't think I've seen how do download presets yet. Or how to make them available to upload. Any info on this? I may have missed it though.

Fuse presets are located here:
https://fuse.fender.com/mustangv2/presets/

you can create an account if you want.

Once at the Fuse Website, look at the top of the browser, where you see options for "FUSE" , "Compatible Products", "Fuse Forum" and the next is a little white selection box.

here you select your product (eg, Mustang, Mustang V2)

then the browser will refresh and take you tot he Mustang pages. There's a link for presets for downloading.

Find one you are interested in, and down load it to your PC. for example, I put them here: c:\...\My Documents\Fender\FUSE\Fuse Downloads.. (just create the directory as you wish)

Then when you have FUSE running and your amp connected, click "Import" then find the amp preset you just downloaded, and select it.

to upload presets, you first need to save one.

any preset that you save IN FUSE, will be in C:\...\My Documents\Fender\FUSE\Presets,

to upload them see this:
http://www2.fender.com/support/articles ... -a-preset/

HEY! Guess what? I downloaded a preset and it worked fine. I downloaded one called Synth of Legends. Sounds good. Gonna save it and use it. Now I will see if I can upload one. I'm sure I can and then I can use this feature to backup individual presets. I'm assuming I can upload one then download it later if I want. But if this practice will add a bunch of presets on the surver JUST FOR MY PURPOSES that may be a pain for others. If that's the case I won't do it.

Thanks for the quick notes. Very easy.

Hi Jack

I think you could just backup your preset folder (c:\...My Documents\Fender\FUSE\Presets) for example to a thumb drive, then you just re-import them any time you needed, like if somehow one of your good presets got mangled. Just re-import from the copy of your presets files.

That worked perfectly. Like you said I just went to the backup folder, selected my most recent backup which I just did after downloading the preset, and imported it just like I did from the FUSE site. This is great. That was the only thing that I thought was lacking. A way to backup and restore one preset instead of the entire set. Now that I know it's not lacking I'm happy. :) Thanks for the help.

The only thing that isn't downloaded it seems is the name the author gave it. The one I downloaded had the name in the file name but after putting it on my amp the preset was still named what I had already named it which was "testing". That's a location I've used to play with presets till I want to copy it to a more permanent location. The lack of it changing the name is not even important to me. Just thought I'd mention it. A new person like me might think at first glance the import didn't work if the name is still what he/she had named it.

that's right. when you import a preset, what gets imported are the "settings" o but the name of the preset remains as it was before you imported. (like if you use Puppet Master , no matter what you import, it's names Puppet Master))

what I usually suggest, is to pick a preset that has a facotry setting you know you will never use (don't worry, there's plenty of these! like Puppet Master for ex.. :) ) give some wacky name, (like Import Preset). Then when you import a preset always use that one. then once in FUSE, when you SAVE it, you then have the ability to give it a preset location as well as your own unique name, like "Jack's Bassman Hall"

you only have so many characters. eventually you'll come up with a naming system that works for you.

Rock on!

/Ray
