When I plug my Mustang Floor into my Blues, Jr. 3, I get horrible noise. Since I'm going into my amp I don't have an amp selected in my Floor. I just have a stompbox, a Sine Chorus and a Delay.

I don't get the noise if I use the amp separately or the Floor using headphones. Just the two together. Should I put them on a separate circuit?

It isn't so bad that it's unusable. Not much more than I've heard with musicians on stage. Just annoying.

Check your cabling and AC grounds!

This could be a bad interconnect cable w/ broken shield or other short. Try using different cables to isolate or eliminate possible cable problem sources.

Isolating the Circuits of the two wouldn't be a bad idea at all! Also check to see if there's any other dirty device on either circuit. You could also try a Line Power Conditioner, or UPS if you think the problem may be AC line interference. You may also want to check to confirm the Level knob is not set too high on the Mustang Floor, and reduce the Input Gain on your Blues Jr. 3 Amp.

Are they both going to the same ac mains set of sockets?
If not might be ground loop hum

The place to start is to confirm that your house wiring is connected to the outlet properly.
You can get an AC Polarity tester for about $5 at a hardware store.

If you have used these in this configuration previously without noise, obviously something has changed. If you never interconnected them then it could be a preexisting source you hadn't noticed. Either way, the AC mains, or even a nearby noisy RF Interference source (USB charger, bad power strip, bad lamp, CFL bulb, transformer, power supply, etc.) could be the source. It often involves a step by step process of unplugging all other devices and one at a time plugging them back in.

markcc, MusicLaw, strings, , thank you for the responses. I don't have it resolved but replying just so you know I appreciate your help.

I tried different cables with no change so it is not a bad cable. I plugged into another outlet in my office with no change. But then it occurred to me that all the outlets are on the same circuit breaker so that was a meaningless test. I am going to run an extension cord to another room.

Timsaudio, I will also get the polarity tester. I built this house in 1980 so who knows the integrity of the wiring?

Interestingly, if I turn the Mustang Floor off, I still get the same buzzing. I'm not sure how diagnostic that is.

Thanks again, guys. I will report more later.

Residential 1980 construction should certainly have modern wiring, albeit, absent studio specific isolation circuitry to filter individal circuit legs from the main service feeds.

Also be aware that using an extension cord to connect to a different circuit of outlets, can act as an antenna! If you are in the vicinity of any RF (Radio Frequency) interference sources, the extension cord can make the situation worse. Be sure to coil any excess extension cord into a circle of approx 8-10" diameter on the floor. Regardless of a pesky (noisy/dirty) device connected in your home (dimmers, LED lights, chargers, etc.), there are also countless external sources. For example, nearby radio station transmissions (Commercial, Ham, CB), Power Company Transformers, etc.

You're in an office you said - could be 'noisy' fluorescent tube lighting - they can go bad.
Try switching all the lights off within 4 or 5 metres.

No, markcc. A logical assumption on your part but I didn't explain. A home office. No fluorescent bulbs.

traz, thank you. My logistics are similar. I have to use an extension cord because of logistics in my office/practice room. I have Mustang Floor, Fender Blues, Jr. 3, Boss E-band all plugged into same cord with a three way plug.. I just went and got a good power bar this morning and will try that. Cross your fingers. I've run out of ideas. I'll report back.

Thanks again.

If a typical low cost spike strip, surge protector/filtered Power Strip fails to get you clean power, there are numerous relatively low cost (from around $100) UPS Uniterruptable Power Supply) units you can use. These not only clean and filter the power, they run it through a sizeable internal battery. You can find them at Office Supply stores, Online, High End audio video shops, and more. If you live in a region where power spikes and outages are common, it is a great piece of gear to use.
