A Mustang amp pretty much does all the "standard" effects and pedals (tuner, compressor, overdrive, fuzz, wah, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, reverb) I would use.
So what pedals are there that do something different?

I'll start with those I have already tried:

  • Digitech Trio - creates a bass+drum track that matches your chord progression. Sounds like $@!& through the Mustang's speaker though. Returned it.
  • Electro harmonix B9 organ machine - converts the guitar sound to an organ sound. Sounds quite nice if you adapt your playing style. Kept it.
  • TC Electronic Ditto - Nice looper. Kept it.

While by no means exotic, I use a Dunlop CryBaby with my MIII. I tried using the built in wah with the EXP pedal and just could not dial in the sound I was looking for.

Other than the volume pedal I only have two stomp boxes on my pedalboard, an acoustic simulator that gets cabled to the PA and a Boss compressor. I use the compressor intermittently when I need one on a preset that has other effects in place but I still need to have a compressor. I've had a POG but didn't use it that much so I took it off. I also had a three voice harmonizer for a while, but it broke so I just use the two part harmonizer in the amp now.

Other than that I have my guitar's wireless receiver on the pedalboard to make things simple. I haven't really found any other pedal needs than what comes with the Mustang.
