I just installed loopy hd on ipad mini 3 and was wondering what is the easiest way to connect to the mustang iii v2 usb?
Is one of those usb to lightning connectors all I need to do this?
Are there any settings in loopy hd that I need to change?

Is that even possible? Can the iPad act as an USB host, and are there iOS drivers for the Mustang? I doubt it.

I have connected my MIIIv2 to my Windows 8 tablet using an USB-OTG adapter. But that's because the tablet supports USB-OTG, and there are Windows drivers for the Mustang.

Pretty sure you can, this guy is doing it with the old 30 pin connector and a camera connection kit.
I think I am on the right track.

Anybody ever hear of any way to connect an Android tablet, or is this probably a fantasy?

I looked into the android tablet also, but everything I found said that there was issues with lagging when trying to record. Also, I read that sometimes the playback timing would drift around.

I didn't test any of those things...I just read it enough times to take those peoples word for it.

When I looked into this I decided that a $99-149 Tascam digital 'portastudio" would be a better choice. This looks like a lot more fun to use to me: http://tinyurl.com/oyakxqx. I've read about people getting Androids to work, but the added gear gets to be around the price of a Tascam unit. The idea of one thing doing everything sounds great, but sometimes, a well designed purpose built product is better optimized for a specific task.
