Hi all,

I am the happy owner of a Mustang III v2 and I would love some advice on creating a fast 2 tones setup for my two guitars, which happen to be a '91 Am Std Strat and a '95 Gibson LP Std (490r/498t).
I mainly play rock/alternative/punk.
I was thinking about a '65 Twin Reverb for the Fender, and a Marshall-like for the Gibson. What is your advice?

Start with presets #90 and #95. Adjust as needed.

Ok.. Is it better to work with Fuse software or straight on the amp?

Even if you're planning on running FUSE all the time with your Mustang, it is a really good idea to know how to do everything directly on the Amp. The only thing you can not do directly on the Amp is move FX items in the Signal Chain.

To start, explore the Seventen (17) default Basic Amp Presets 83-99. See which of these suit your tastes. Feel free to overwrite these to adjust for Gain, and Drive levels between the Presets if you wish. Also explore changing the SAG, BIAS and Cabinet Simulations via the deep Amp Menu via 2x presses of the Amp Button. The Memory Lock is Enabled by Default and will need to be Disabled to Save any changes. This is done via the UTIL menu.

All these Seventeen Basic Amp Models are Hard coded in the Amp's Amp Button -> Data Wheel choices. Thus they are always available with their default settings right from the Amp Button Menu! This makes these memory slots 83-99 available for any of your custom presets w/o having to worry about overwriting any of the other 82 custom preset recipes.

Overall, using the LCD is very quick and loaded with features. Once you begin exploring FUSE, you'll have access to the online FUSE community of Presets. There are lots of great ones you can save to your hard drive and subsequently write to your Amp. The InTheBlues custom presets are really good and Shane has created them for a Strat, a Les Paul, as well as numerous artist style inspired presets.

Wow that was great explanation, thanks. Could you just explain to me how to get back the default Basic Amp Presets once I start messing with them? Maybe I don't understand because I have the amp stored in the closet at the moment. You say I should find them under Amp Button -> Data Wheel choices?

Again, thanks; tomorrow I'll be working on them, and then I'll have a look at the InTheBlues presets, from whom I saw some videos on youtube!

If you change the amp model by turning the data wheel while you are editing the AMP page, the amp settings (Gain, bass, treble etc.) will be the default settings for that amp model and those are the same settings as used in the "Basic" presets.

For each of the 00-99 memory Presets in the Mustangs (III, IV, V) the currently selected (1 of 17) Amp Model is just one of the parameters comprising any Preset.

For any Preset 00-99 a single momentary press of the Amp Button gets access to the Amp Selection Menu where each rotational click of the Data Wheel displays the name of the next (1 of 17) Amp Model now currently selected (for that current 00-99 Preset). In this manner, you may dynamically audition each of the 17 Amp models, and feel free to adjust any of the Amp Page 1 or Page 2 parameters. The Memory Lock (enabled by default) prevents any changes being Saved. Only if you disable the Lock will pressing the illuminated Red SAVE button save any changes to the current Preset. And, regardless of which Amp you dial in w/ the Data Wheel, pressing the Exit button returns everything to where you began --unchanged -- for that Preset!

Also note that as soon as the Mustang's sees that you have made any change to any parameter of a Preset, an asterisk "*" will appear at the beginning of the Preset's alphanumeric name. This alerts you to the fact that something has changed! If you do not want to save any changes (regardless of the Memory Lock status), simply spin the Data Wheel (in either direction to the next or preceeding Preset). This takes you to the adjacent Preset and clears the asterisk flag from the prior Preset.

Press the Amp Button once to Edit the Amp Menu parameters (Page 1). A second press of the Amp Button gets you to Amp Menu parameters (Page 2). Each of Amp Menu pages have virtual buttons for the parameters of the currently selected Amp Model -- one of the 17 in the Mustang. As you will see each Amp model is set (as a default) to it's own recipe of parameters. These are hard coded into the Mustang and each is always available instantly each time you dial up another Amp via the Data Wheel.

Rest assured, this will all become very clear in just a few minutes when you explore this on the Amp!

Also you can backup and restore all presets using FUSE, and you can reset the amp to factory settings and have all the presets reset to their defaults.

One thing to consider. Instead of thinking of it as one amp model for each guitar think of it as what kind of amp/guitar combination best fits this song? Not all punk, alt, or rock fits neatly into a single amp/guitar situation. For example british rock might fit more neatly with a Vox/LP setup for many of their song whereas an american rock might tend a bit more toward a Marshall/Strat setup. Of course that all depends ont he song itself, but you get my drift.

I gig with 3 guitars, a strat, a les paul, and a gretsch. I'd say I probably have 4 or 5 amp setups specific to the LP, 3 or 4 specific to the strat, and about 3 for the Gretsch. But it allows me to cover a very wide range of sounds very quickly and easily.

That's really one of the real freedoms modeling amps like this offer that previously was very hard to achieve.

The Amp Reset is done on the Amp via a Power On Button Press and Hold Combination. This restores all Factory settings and wipes any customizations you have made to the Amp's settings. This is the only way to recover the original 00-82 Presets if you have written over them. Instructions are in the Advanced User Guide downloadable as a PDF. I do not know if FUSE has any method to trigger an Amp Reset. Any Amp Presets you may have backed up using FUSE can be restored to the Amp via FUSE.

Yes, indeed it was my original plan. It's just that I am still clumsy with the amp controls and all this technology, so I thought of keeping it simple for a while :D
I have always been playing with a JCM900 and so I was forced to fewer options. But I see your point; it is a clear advantage of an amp like this Mustang and I need to train to make the best out of it :)

Well, good day to all. I am getting a bit into the things, and I am creating the first quite satisfying profile. The problem is that I can't succeed to login on the Fuse software. I tried with my Fender.com profile with no success, then I created another profile on fuse.fender.com without any luck. What am I possibly doing wrong? Thanks.

Good evening, and thanks for replying. In the end I succeeded logging in with the profile I created on fuse.fender.com. Did I actually have to create this profile or could I have been using the one I am using on this forum now?
Thanks.
