Well, my Mustang III v2 will be arriving sometime today and should be waiting for me when I get back from work! :D

I was wondering what everybody's favorite presets are. I play a strat, and mostly bluesy rock flavored music. I've downloaded a lot of the Intheblues presets and I look forward to playing with those.

Also, I've read somewhere that you can do something like turning the sag all the way down and bias all the way up and it makes the amp sound more tube-like, or something. Anyone know anything about that?

Thanks all.

Right now... this is my favorite preset on my Mustang II

The Bassman is my favorite model and I've gotten to know it pretty well. I have other ones i like on my amp but this is the one i come back to the most. Very touchy feely with the picking dynamics and takes external pedals well which is good since i have a mustang II so only the single button footswitch option.

and this one is growing on me for a much more dirty lead-ish type tone

the sag and bias are subtle but pretty effective params. the cab emulator is too.

some of my fav presets are derived from the Bassman, Deluxe and British 70s stack for blues, crunchy stuff.

for clean, hard to beat the twin model with a bit of compression.

one thing to know about, since you're primarily a strat guy, some of the models have a bright switch that is only accessible in Fuse. This makes quite a bit of difference getting the shrill out of single coil pups with out killing off your treble. (The twin, and Vox models come to mind)

Oh and the first thing you will want to do is level off the presets you will use the most. The volume is all over the place from one preset to another. One of the things that I think Fender should have taken some time and worked out in the factory presets. easy to correct, (use the AMP models volume control, the one near the gain and treble control - not the master volume to turn DOWN overly loud presets and then save)

it's a bit of trial and error and it's the one thing that as a new user, wont make you entirely happy. Once you sort that out tho. you'll start to like what you hear.

I just love the cleanness of the '65 Twin, no gain, equalized to my taste and just a bit of added compression and tape delay. Here's a song I just recorded over the weekend using these settings (Epiphone WildKat):

You'll be able to get plenty of Clean's from the MIII (v2)!

Congrats on your new amp. Blues/Rock on a Strat can be quite a range of sounds. For myself when I play blues on my Strat I tend to use the John Mayer preset from InTheBlues. I also use his Mark Knopfler preset quite often for my cleaner sounds. If it's more of a heavier/traditional rock sound I'm after I've been very pleased with a preset I developed using the HiWatt (British Watts) model mostly with my Les Paul.

I can't say I've found much use to tweak the Bias or Sag controls although I have turned off cabinet emulations on some presets for certain types of songs. As far as making it sound more like a tube amp, I'm not sure I buy that so much. I pretty much fool/shock people all the time when they find out I'm not using a tube amp regardless of the preset.

For me it's just a matter of finding/creating the right preset to represet the tone of whatever style song I'm playing. That tends to play out to just a handfull of working presets I use fairly consistently. You can get lost and spend a lot of time playing with all the variations on the amp. Time that would be better spent practicing. I'd recommend you just get comfortable with what the different amps their variations can do and then let the song itself lead you in the right direction for the tone you'll need. In that regard the InTheBlues presets can be a real time saver.

Hey guys, thank you for all the tips! I am having a lot of fun playing with this amp - even snuck home a bit early from work today so I could play with it some more.

So far my go to patch 00 is one I found called "Rich Strat," and I've been playing with a lot of the Intheblues presets - sound great! I'm also really impressed with how well the amp takes pedals.

I can definitely see how I could spend all my practice time playing with the amp rather than the guitar.

I kept only 3 of the factory presets (out of 24 on the Mustang I), and don't use them all that much. The rest are ones I downloaded and modified, or else built from scratch.

Some of the downloaded presets intended for 6-string work nicely for bass (through headphones, at any rate), surprisingly enough. One of these is named "Fixx 2 ompression" (spelled exactly like that), which I had to tweak just a bit for volume or some such.

Andy2theT, the Mustang III (v2) always powers up to Preset "00". You can Save any Preset you want at power-up to Preset Memory "00"! I moved the Basic Studio Preamp (originally in memory 83) to memory 00. This way, the amp no longer defaults to the high gain & effect laden Liquid Solo preset (that is otherwise in memory slot 00 at default). Before doing so, I Saved a duplicate copy of the Liquid Solo Preset to Memory slot 83. Then, I overwrote Memory Slot 00 with the Studio Preamp Preset.

This is easy to do right on the amp itself - no need to use FUSE (unless you want or need to reposition FX units in the signal chain).

On the v2 models III, IV and V, all the Seventeen (17) Basic Default Amp Models are in memory slots 83 through 99. Each of their default modeled parameter settings are hard coded in the Amp! Via the Amp Button -> Data Wheel selection menu they always remain accessible w/ their default configurations. This makes these seventeen slots (83-99) available for your own custom Presets (without loosing access to all 17 default Amps' configurations). These seventeen memory slots can be used for any preset so you don't loose any of the config recipes of the default 00-82 presets. In two steps any preset can be relocated, one at a time, to another memory slot on the amp.

Until I eventually got around to backing up the original default presets using FUSE, I did not want to loose any until I familiarized myself with their individual recipe of settings. Note: the various settings and parameters of these 00-82 Fender provided individual Amp presets are not always identically configured to the Basic Amp button's selections. Also many of these 83 Presets have non-default FX values configured. Also Note: The Memory Lock is enabled by default. This must be set to "Off" to move any presets or make any changes, rename presets, etc. Also note that if you perform a master reset on the amp, all factory settings will be restored! All of your changes -- if you have not first backed them up using FUSE -- will be lost!

Hope this helps....
