Hello everyone. Picked up a Mustang I V.2 yesterday because I have never had a modeling amp and read and heard good things about the Fuse interface with this amp....so just wanted to experiment with their entry level version. So far I have been VERY impressed with the sound options and features out of this little practice amp. Looks like it could be a great practice tool for me at home and grab and go.

My question is I did find something interesting last night. Using the preset from the factory amber bank 65 Twin Reverb tone, I noticed that up and down the fret board the tone sounds great, except for when I start playing bass notes around the 9th to 12th fret on the low E and A strings. The pleasant bass sound goes away and all of a sudden the tone almost amplifies to much and the notes from those strings almost hit a certain frequency with the speaker that sounds like its going to blow it out..basically overpowering the speaker? Is this normal? I wouldn't think it would be?

I seem to get this on the same notes from a few other presets on the twin and bassman but not others? Don't know if I am describing this sound correctly. It doesn't do it on the other more gain tones and presets. Those all sound great from what I have played with so far.

I thought well maybe the tone was just overpowering the smaller speaker for those few notes so I plugged in my professional level studio grade headphones to see if I got the same result through that medium.....and low and behold i did. So I am thinking its not the speaker at this point? (BTW it does this with both my Tele and my Strat).

Could it be something purposely put into the model of these tones on purpose, or did I get a defective amp?

If anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas of what I am doing wrong, or perhaps it is normal (I wouldn't think so?)....would love to know.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help

can you post an audio or video clip of what you're talking about?

I think it would help. What you describe doesn't sound 'normal' to me. I don't suppose you bought the amp locally? You could bring it back and plug it in side-by-side with a know working amp to see if they are behaving differently....

EDIT: Is the guitar plugged straight into the input with no other stomp boxes or effects in between? Also, did you remove anything that's plugged through the effects loop? Just to rule out issues concerning your effects pedals/etc. Also, try a different patch cable?

Thanks for the ideas. When I get off work tonight I will give them a try and report back. Should be able to get this figured out, if not I did buy it locally I can always take it back and try another one.

I tried my MIV and MIII (both v2) to see if either would exhibit any similar sounds from the Basic 65 Twin Reverb and Bassman Amp Presets, w/o any FX enabled. No oddities heard. Guitar used was a Les Paul Custom Pro w/ ProBuckers in all Three (3) Humbucker modes (Rhythm, Lead, both), all Five (5) Single Coil-Tapped modes, and all Four (4) Phase Shifted modes. All sounded normal.

Happens on my MIII as well

Just remove some of the Bass setting on those models, where you notice this happening.

I believe the speaker is just not able to hold up to the low frequencies in some particular situations especially with humbuckers.

you could also consider putting a much better speaker in the amp, which I've toyed with the idea myself.

At what Master Volume level setting were you hearing the problem?
